Under little to no supervision, the PLC Applications Engineer writes PLC programs, OIT programs, and software control descriptions for controlling various water and/or wastewater processes. Responsible for the analysis, design, programming, debugging and modification of programmable logic for such applications. Verify that all aspects of PLC & OIT functionality meet required project specifications and perform bench testing, shop testing, and troubleshooting during startup and post commissioning. Ability and willingness to train and aid other programmers, along with assisting in the development of departmental best practices and standards.

This role will travel about 30-40% of the time throughout California. 

What you'll do:

  • Write PLC operating program based upon control specification and/or Tesco standards to assure safe, reliable and optimal equipment operation
  • Write (publish) concise operating instructions detailing; control parameters and their effects under normal and failure conditions Provide technical assistance (phone or job-site) to verify and/or modify PLC program
  • Perform customer training and assist sales force with product presentations
  • Work with various departments internally, along with consulting engineers, customers and end users to assure proper system layouts and designs
  • Analyze and interpret existing programs and documentation to identify systems' requirements and project modifications
  • Ensure assignments and work schedules follow policy and procedures
  • Assist in the standardization of department programming practices and procedures
  • Evaluate current procedures and recommend changes to improve the efficiency of planning, documentation and execution of development activity
  • Function as technical leadership of projects and support larger scale projects
  • Communicate effectively to a wide range of internal and external contacts
  • Assist in training other employees on any aspect above
  • Provide weekly content and job status reports used with scheduling tools.
  • All other duties assigned 

What you bring:

  • At least 5+ years of related experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Technology or related field and necessary experience

  • Applied knowledge in programming major manufacturers (Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Tesco, etc.) PLCs & OITs

  • Excellent understanding of computer operations, Microsoft Office

  • Excellent knowledge of instruments and electro-mechanical devices used for process control

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • High level of organizational and time management skills

  • High level of project management skills
