JOB DESCRIPTION
Senior Maintenance Mechanic
Position Summary
The Senior Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of facility mechanical systems, utilities, and building infrastructure. This position serves as a technical resource within the Facilities team, supporting preventive maintenance programs, capital projects, regulatory compliance, system optimization, and emergency response activities.
Candidates with experience in commercial/industrial HVAC systems or industrial wastewater treatment systems will be strongly considered and are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility mechanical systems and utility equipment.
- Complete preventive maintenance tasks, work orders, and equipment documentation using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Perform preventive on chillers, boilers, pumps, air compressors, process utilities, wastewater treatment equipment, and other critical facility systems.
- Perform routine inspections, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and respond to Building Management System (BMS) alarms and facility system alerts.
- Support operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment systems, including pumps, tanks, piping, filtration, monitoring equipment, and chemical treatment systems, where applicable.
- Maintain facility structures and grounds, including minor carpentry, painting, flooring, and roofing repairs.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, plumbing, utility, and basic electrical systems to minimize downtime.
- Support equipment installations, facility upgrades, and infrastructure improvement projects.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, contractors, manufacturing personnel, and skilled trades.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, operating logs, and compliance documentation.
- Support environmental, health, and safety programs, including hazardous waste and recycling management activities.
- Assist with seasonal snow and ice removal and maintain associated equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 5+ years of facilities maintenance experience in a manufacturing, semiconductor, industrial, pharmaceutical, utility, or similar environment.
- Strong technical experience in either:
- Commercial/industrial HVAC systems, or
- Industrial wastewater treatment plant operation and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems including pumps, compressors, piping systems, boilers, and associated facility equipment.
- Basic understanding of industrial electrical and plumbing systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work overtime and respond to emergency situations as required.
- Participate in a rotating 24-hour emergency on-call program.
Preferred Qualifications
- HVAC certification, EPA Universal Certification, Massachusetts Wastewater Operator License, or equivalent technical/trade certification.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Experience supporting critical manufacturing, semiconductor, cleanroom, or regulated industrial environments.
- Familiarity with environmental compliance requirements and utility system operations.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe work practices.
- Previous experience leading projects, coordinating contractors, or mentoring maintenance personnel.

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE
$34.70 - $52.05This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations.
Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on
multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work
location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as
you develop within the role.
Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the
Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular
employees working 20+ hours a week).
