Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months within the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is required.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• Flu vaccination required for submission. Religious and medical declinations accepted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers accepted. Minimum of 18 months experience in MedSurg and/or ICU with Epic or Cerner experience required. If strictly ICU experience, Cerner is required. At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Chemo experience highly preferred but not required.

Unit Details: Patient ratios vary by unit: 1:4-6 overall; typically 1:4, and 5 North MedSurg/Oncology is 1:4-5 for RNs and LPNs. May work on 6 North Trauma Surgical, 5 South Neuroscience, 5 North MedSurg/Oncology, 3 South Orthopedics, and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology. Patient populations include general surgery and vascular surgery; CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, and angiogram; MedSurg/oncology, palliative care, and ETOH withdrawal; orthopedic and spine cases including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; and urology and ENT patients. Expected skills across floated units include wound care, chest tubes, NGT/PEG tubes, trach care, ostomy care, drains, foleys, IV starts, blood draws from central lines, PCA pumps, surgical site care, C-collar and abdominal binder care, restraints, and CVL dressing changes. Telemetry is monitored by telemetry techs, and RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings q4 hours. 5 North may include chemo administration if certified. Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors.

Shift & Scheduling: Weekend rotation: every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. No call. One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. 4-week schedule cycle; no self-scheduling, uses Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: Float to any like unit/patient location (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds).

Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility. Staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler, from last shift worked to start date. Holiday time off is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. Up to 7 days off may be approved, excluding blackout dates; blackout dates require NM/Eanh approval. Baptist blackout 2026 RTO dates overlapping this assignment: Halloween 10/30-11/2, Thanksgiving 11/26-30, and Christmas and New Year’s 12/21-1/1.
