About the Role
Van Avery Prep is seeking an enthusiastic and flexible On Call Physical Education Substitute Teacher to provide instructional coverage as needed. In this role, you will step into physical education classes and maintain the smooth delivery of established lesson plans in the absence of the regular teacher. You will create a safe, structured, and encouraging environment where elementary and middle school students can participate actively and successfully.
This on-call position requires adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to respond confidently to varying schedules, grade levels, and instructional needs. For longer-term assignments, you may also develop and deliver lesson plans aligned with the school’s curriculum and educational goals.
You Will…
- Follow and implement lesson plans provided by the regular physical education teacher.
- Lead age-appropriate physical education activities while promoting participation, teamwork, sportsmanship, and student well-being.
- Maintain effective class management and a positive, nurturing environment conducive to learning and physical activity.
- Supervise students in the gymnasium, on athletic fields, in the classroom, and in other assigned areas.
- Monitor the safe use of equipment and facilities and follow all school health and safety procedures.
- Keep instructional spaces and equipment orderly, clean, and ready for student use during coverage.
- Develop and deliver lesson plans aligned with school goals and curriculum expectations when serving in a long-term substitute assignment.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with students, families, faculty, and school leadership to support a seamless educational experience.
- Uphold the school’s values by promoting respect, dignity, responsibility, and inclusion in every interaction.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in education, physical education, kinesiology, or a related field preferred.
- Prior classroom experience, particularly with elementary and middle school students, is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate physical education activities and safe instructional practices preferred.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with close attention to detail.
- Strong classroom management, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Punctuality, reliability, and flexibility in responding to diverse classroom situations and changing assignments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Patience, professionalism, sound judgment, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to maintain discipline and a safe, structured learning environment.
- Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
