Position Title: Operations Assistant
Department: Residential Living and Learning
Reports to: Coordinator of Facilities & Operations

Residential Living and Learning (RLL) is committed to fostering a student-centered residential experience that builds community, supports purposeful learning, and cultivates meaningful connections through leadership development and holistic engagement.
Position Overview
The Operations Assistant (OA) is a paraprofessional staff member for the Department of Residential Living and Learning (RLL). Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Operations & Facilities, the OA will perform and assist with minor furniture repairs; furniture moving; bulletin boards installation; replacement of vinyl door signage, performing routine facilities work, and other various building tasks. Performs and assists with daily work order site visits; taking detailed notes of progress and other items accordingly. Performs and assists with daily walk-thru/inspection of buildings and rooms (interior & exterior). Performs tasks that follow well established procedures requiring limited judgment as assigned by supervisors. Some tasks may be labor intensive. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Appointment as an OA is based on leadership capabilities, a willingness to assume additional responsibilities, and the ability to work in a team.
Effective Period
Continued employment is determined on a semester-by-semester basis
Job Position Requirement
- Enrollment as a student at ETAMU (undergraduate).
- Successful completion of the application and interview process as part of the selection.
- Demonstrated positive conduct (good standing) with Residential Living and Learning (RLL) and ETAMU.
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students
Continued Employment
All Operations Assistants seeking to return to the position must meet the following requirements:
- Have a successful employee evaluation.
- Positive record of conduct with RLL and the rest of campus.
- Meet or exceed GPA requirements.
- Participate in the re-hire process set forth by the Department of Residential Living and Learning.
Once rehired, all OAs will be evaluated on team fit and community needs for the upcoming academic year and placed accordingly.
Benefits
- OAs will receive a compensation rate of $10.00 per hour.
Job Position Requirements
- Must be an undergraduate student. Graduate students are not eligible for this position.
- Must possess and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
- Must have a clear judicial record at the time of hiring and must maintain this status throughout the term of employment (no outstanding conduct or sanctions).
- Must attend all staff meetings and training sessions, and complete required online training.
- Must be available for 15-19 hours per week (minimum availability of 10-15 hours per week) and understand that schedules and responsibilities will shift throughout the year.
- Able to ascend and descend stairs in buildings where no elevators are provided or in emergency situations.
- Perform light labor such as lifting boxes, moving furniture, cleaning, etc.
- Is able to use both hands, sits, lifts/carries/pushes/pulls (moderate weight), bends/stoops, uses some power tools, and possibly other maintenance equipment in order to accomplish position tasks.
- Able to lift 15 lbs. at minimum.
- Possesses basic knowledge of hand and shop tools used in building trades. Has working knowledge of basic moving equipment such as dollies and lifts.
- Works in confined areas, exposure to: weather and temperatures, potential allergenic/irritant conditions, possible hazardous chemicals, noise exposure to tools, vibration of tools.
- Ability to submit, keep track, and maintain all work orders for the Residential Living & Learning residential halls on StarRez software and Maintenance Connection.
- Report HVAC and other work orders as needed.
- Perform and update building/structural and cleaning inspections weekly of all residential halls. As well as any needs of key control.
- Be knowledgeable of campus policies as well as emergency procedures.
- Document policy violations or any concerns and report them to their supervisor immediately.
- Is dependable and reports to work on time. Frequent tardiness and/or “no shows” will be considered grounds for termination, after one verbal and one written warning.
- Is able to think critically, work independently with limited supervision, and have the personal initiative to generate and complete tasks as well as follows verbal and written directions from staff and supervisors.
- Provide excellent customer service in a pleasant and helpful manner.
- Able to work in a team setting and engage in a positive team dynamic.
- Assist residents with additional needs as determined by professional RLL staff.
- Assist with administrative tasks, filing, and keeping records updated.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualification
- Construction Management Major or related.
- One year’s experience as a student worker, preferably at East Texas A&M University.
- Knowledge of East Texas A&M University.
Terms & Conditions of Employment
- Employment Period: Beginning of Fall Semester
- OAs are required to be enrolled during the Fall & Spring semesters.
- Outside employment and internships must be approved by the supervisor and is not guaranteed.
- A maximum of 10 hours per week outside of the Operations Assistant position will be considered.
- Your academic schedule and availability will be taken into account in the consideration. You must be available for all of your OA obligations.
- OAs must be available to work assigned shifts, meetings, and trainings.
- As a representative of the Department of Residential Living & Learning and ETAMU, the OA must follow all housing and university policies.
- Voluntary or involuntary removal from the OA position does not cancel the student employee's housing or dining contracts. Additionally, the student employee will be responsible for paying the remaining balance at the full rate for the remaining dining/housing cost to the Department of Residential Living and Learning.
