Job Summary
Maintains eight/twelve hour accountability for the coordination of clinical and administrative activities for the nursing department. Is administratively responsible for Montefiore Nyack Hospital operations in the absence of a higher-ranking administrator.
Essential Functions
- JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
Demonstrates the technical/professional knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the successful operations of the department including, where applicable, age specific competency. *
1. Demonstrates clinical expertise with evidence of skill in application of the Nursing process; serving as resource person and role model for staff.
2. Evaluates critical patients, unusual situations or incidents, provides intervention and resolution or
recommendations for resolution and reports same accordance with policy and procedure.
3. Evaluate and coordinate total patient care needs and staff requirements with awareness of cost effective utilization of staff and supplies.
4. Provides a comprehensive and succinct report to oncoming supervision.
5. Demonstrates knowledge of labor relations, and economics and legislation that affects all stake holders; possesses knowledge of NYSNA contract, interpreting the terms and assuring compliance to the contractual agreement.
6. Maintains in-depth knowledge of current nursing trends, inclusive of pertinent medical, legal and healthcare trends, initiating interventions as required.
7. Makes daily rounds on all assigned units.
8. Coordinates, assesses and plans patient admission, discharges and transfers with Admitting Department and nursing care units. Specifically works with Admitting to expedite the admission of emergency room patient and direct admissions. - CUSTOMER SERVICE:

3. Participates in team efforts to increase the level of customer satisfaction. - B. PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT:
1. Demonstrates the ability to recognize an opportunity for improvement and to collect and assess data.
2. Demonstrates the ability to develop, implement and evaluate a Performance Improvement Plan.
3. Participates in Departmental/Hospital-wide activities which improve processes/outcomes.
4. Utilizes resources to maintain and improve self knowledge and development and fosters the same for employees.
5. Demonstrates compliance with licensure/certification requirements and the timeliness of their submission. - C. BUDGET:
1. Prepares and administers the annual budget.
2. Demonstrates ability to manage variances in the budget including Human Resource management and management of expenses.
3. Collaborates with employees to control costs and pursue additional revenue opportunities. - D. PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Completes projects/assignments within projected time frames and expectations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree nursing Required
- Masters nursing Preferred
- A minimum of three years recent clinical experience with at least 2 years managerial role or equivalent leadership role.
- BLS - American Heart Association Required
- ANA certification Preferred
