Baystate Health is seeking a skilled and compassionate Respiratory Therapist – Pediatric & Neonatal to join the Respiratory Care team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. This role provides specialized respiratory care to pediatric and neonatal patients, working closely with physicians, nurses, and an interdisciplinary care team to evaluate, assess, and treat infants and children with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions.

This position offers the opportunity to provide high-acuity respiratory care across critical care, emergency, inpatient, and post-acute settings while supporting patients and families throughout their care journey. The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in delivering safe, evidence-based, family-centered care and supporting positive outcomes for some of our most vulnerable patients.

The Respiratory Therapist Will:

• Perform comprehensive respiratory and cardiopulmonary assessments, including physical examinations and interpretation of diagnostic findings, to identify patient needs and develop appropriate respiratory care plans.
• Perform and collect diagnostic information, including pulmonary function testing, sleep studies, blood gas analysis, and noninvasive and invasive diagnostic procedures.
• Provide and manage respiratory therapies, including medical gas, humidity, aerosol, airway clearance, and invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
• Provide specialized respiratory care to pediatric and neonatal patients, including artificial airway management and care and advanced respiratory support as clinically indicated.
• Monitor patient condition and respiratory equipment, titrate oxygen therapy, and modify treatment based on patient response, clinical assessment, and laboratory results.
• Provide respiratory support during emergency, acute, and critical care situations, including Rapid Response and Code Blue events, and participate in neonatal and pediatric patient transport as applicable.
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary care teams to support hemodynamic management, disease management, discharge planning, patient education, and care coordination.
• Maintain equipment, infection prevention, safety, quality, and competency standards while supporting the education and development of new respiratory therapists and students as assigned.

Schedule: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM

Weekend Requirement: Rotating weekends and holidays required

Required Skills

• Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Current Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential is required.
• Current Massachusetts Respiratory Therapist license.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) certifications required for the assigned service area.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is required for positions supporting neonatal and obstetric services.
• Minimum of one (1) year of clinical Respiratory Therapy experience.
• Ability to provide safe, effective respiratory care to pediatric and neonatal patients.
• Ability to assess patients, interpret diagnostic information, and safely administer respiratory therapies.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential preferred.
• Previous experience caring for pediatric and/or neonatal patients.
• Experience caring for neonatal and pediatric patients requiring advanced respiratory support.
• Strong critical thinking and clinical assessment skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Experience providing compassionate, family-centered care in a high-acuity setting.
• Experience serving as a preceptor or supporting the education of respiratory therapists and healthcare students.

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
