Reading Manager

Reports to: Senior Underwriting Counsel


POSITION SUMMARY

The Reading Manager leads, supports, and develops the reading team, partnering closely with Legal, Production, and Title Officers to ensure operational excellence and workflow consistency across departments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, develop, and manage performance of the reading team:
    • Conduct regular 1:1s and check-ins (15Five)
    • Assess performance and deliver constructive feedback
    • Lead training, onboarding, and continuing education
  • Delegate and reassign work across the team based on shifting priorities, capacity, and deadlines.
  • Approve timesheets, overtime, and PTO in line with company policy.
  • Foster a team culture built on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and resolve workflow inefficiencies, staffing or knowledge gaps, and vendor issues to improve output and reduce errors.
  • Partner with Legal to define and implement reading best practices and drive cross-departmental standardization.
  • Collaborate with leadership, Production, and Title Officers to refine inter-departmental workflows, improve title product consistency, and enhance the client experience.
  • Deliver professional, responsive communication to clients, colleagues, vendors, and abstractors.
  • Monitor and apply updates from Teams, email, and meetings to keep the team aligned with organizational goals.
  • Keep senior leadership informed of progress, challenges, and key developments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in title reading, legal, or operations roles.
  • Proven success in staff development, training, and performance management.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Experience with HR platforms such as 15Five and with vendor or abstractor management is a plus.
