At AECOM, we're delivering a better world. Whether improving your commute, keeping the lights on, providing access to clean water, or transforming skylines, our work helps people and communities thrive. We are the world's trusted infrastructure consulting firm, partnering with clients to solve the world’s most complex challenges and build legacies for future generations.
There has never been a better time to be at AECOM. With accelerating infrastructure investment worldwide, our services are in great demand. We invite you to bring your bold ideas and big dreams and become part of a global team of over 50,000 planners, designers, engineers, scientists, digital innovators, program and construction managers and other professionals delivering projects that create a positive and tangible impact around the world.
We're one global team driven by our common purpose to deliver a better world. Join us.
AECOM's Buildings + Places (B+P) practice is seeking a Managing Principal for the Hunt Valley office who will also serve as the Aviation Market Sector Leader's primary operations and business development partner across the Mid-Atlantic and East Region. This is a blended role: one third of the position's effort is dedicated to Managing Principal responsibilities for the Hunt Valley office — local strategic growth planning, client relationships, and team leadership. The remaining approximately two thirds is dedicated to aviation sector pursuit strategy, opportunity tracking, and follow-up across the broader Mid-Atlantic and East Region, in direct partnership with the Aviation Market Sector Leader.
Because the aviation practice's growth and staffing footprint extend well beyond Hunt Valley, regular travel to other Mid-Atlantic offices — including Washington, DC — should be expected as a core part of this role, not an occasional exception.
The ideal candidate brings both the client-relationship and delivery credibility to lead a local office, and deep aviation industry fluency — through design, planning, program/construction management, or client/owner-side airport operations — combined with genuine operational rigor: disciplined meeting cadences, consistent client discovery well ahead of RFP release, and a real investment in mentoring and connecting people across a large, matrixed organization.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Managing Principal, Hunt Valley Office
- Develop and execute the strategic growth plan for the Hunt Valley office, including client outreach goals.
- Lead the local strategy for building client relationships, strategically pre-positioning, winning, and delivering the most important work based out of Hunt Valley.
- Together with regional leadership and market sector leaders, support a high-performing Hunt Valley team — soliciting and managing client feedback to align operations and allocate resources according to strategic priorities.
- Champion AECOM's vision locally and engage the Hunt Valley team around it, recognizing and supporting the growth of local staff.
Aviation Sector Pursuit Strategy, Tracking & Follow-Up
Business Development & Capture Operations
- Serve as the Aviation Market Sector Leader's primary point of contact for tracking active pursuits, opportunities, and the long-range (3–5 year) pipeline across the Mid-Atlantic and East Region.
- Own execution of AECOM's capture process for aviation pursuits: coordinate capture meetings, track internal milestones and hand-offs, and drive client discovery well ahead of RFP release rather than in response to it.
- Build and maintain direct relationships with East Coast aviation authorities and clients (e.g., MAA, MWAA, and comparable regional entities), representing AECOM in discovery meetings and ongoing client maintenance.
- Support proposal development and interview preparation, including scope-of-work development and client-facing positioning.
AECOM’s Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building engineering, workplace strategy, business transformation, asset advisory, economics and development planning, master planning, urban planning, and landscape architecture.
With a range of expertise from strategy and design through project realization, we create better outcomes to grow economies, protect natural systems, conserve natural resources, make societies more equitable, and connect and engage people through innovative, sustainable design solutions.
Our teams have worked on signature projects such as the London 2012 Olympic Park and Legacy Framework, the new plan for the LA2028 Olympics, industrial facilities for GE and Rolls-Royce, headquarters and workplaces for NASA, Unilever, Sony Music, DirecTV, Box, Inc., and many Fortune 500 companies.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor of Architecture or related industry degree (Engineer, Interior Designer, or Planner) and 10+ years of related experience and/or demonstrated equivalency of experience and education.
- 2 years of demonstrated leadership.
- Licensed professional Architect, Engineer, or Interior Designer.
- Experience in the Baltimore - Washington D.C. marketplace, especially Aviation entities, key clients, and industry trends is paramount.
- Experience and skill in strategic business development, client relationships, and driving sales and revenue.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in business.
- 10+ years of demonstrated leadership.
- The ability to support and lead business development activities through early client interaction, “scope of work” development, interviews, and ongoing client maintenance interface.
- Acted as principal-in-charge of a large/multi-disciplined project /consultant team.
- Established project scopes, work plans, and work schedules.
- Successfully delivered projects within the clients’ budget/schedule requirements.
- Successfully delivered project scope and fee, delivering targeted profit to the firm interfaced with project managers on schedules, project review meetings, issues management, and client expectations.
- An ability to travel and/or work remotely with teams.
- A strong desire to train, mentor, and develop staff to grow their careers and the business.
- 8+ years of experience in the aviation and transportation markets having worked with clients such as MAA, MDTA, MWAA or WMATA.
- Relocation may be available for this position.
- Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
At AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously. To support this commitment, all newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.
