The Product Manager oversees the end-to-end management of pricing analysis, recommendations, and execution for assigned U.S. credit card products or portfolios, including interest rates, fees, promotional offers, pricing terms, and related customer treatments that balance customer value, financial performance, and risk requirements. The Product Manager manages assigned pricing initiatives across the product lifecycle, from opportunity sizing and business-case development through cross-functional implementation, validation, monitoring, and ongoing optimization. This role acts as a pricing subject matter expert, using customer, portfolio, competitive, and financial insights to develop recommendations and improve customer outcomes. The role is accountable for the quality and timely delivery of assigned pricing work and contributes to pricing-related business results, including revenue, margin, balances, customer response, retention, and risk outcomes, in partnership with Product, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Technology.
- Highly seasoned professional role requiring substantial knowledge/expertise in credit card pricing, portfolio economics, and related product, finance, risk, regulatory, operational, and technology disciplines
- Accountable for assigned pricing work within a major portfolio or business area that includes multiple products, customer segments, pricing structures, and complex financial and regulatory attributes
- Integrates knowledge of the enterprise sub-function’s or business line’s overarching strategy in developing pricing recommendations and implementation approaches with Product, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Technology partners
- Provides expertise and advice on pricing structures, economics, customer impacts, and execution considerations for bank-branded and partner portfolios, channels, products, and segments
- Has advisory/consultative accountability for pricing analyses, recommendations, and related workstreams across functions that are not directly managed
- Solves or may lead others to solve complex pricing, profitability, execution, and control problems; leads efforts or partners with others to develop new solutions
- Uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify pricing opportunities, tradeoffs, risks, and recommended actions
- Impacts the achievement of sub-function or business line objectives within the assigned pricing portfolio and workstreams
- Develops and maintains a deep understanding of the regulatory requirements, customer, market, and industry to deliver pricing strategies and processes that improve customer value, portfolio returns, and control effectiveness
- Develops and implements pricing recommendations, procedures, and customer treatments within approved strategies, policies, and standards in such a way that it enhances the end-to-end customer experience (including training, enhancement and irritant reduction) while achieving business objectives
- Oversees and ensures the clear and effective delivery of assigned pricing changes by coordinating disclosures, communications, operational procedures, and system configurations with accountable partners to the customer
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert for pricing-related inquiries
- May lead business plans leveraging Acquisition and Segments teams to design acquisition pricing and promotional offers, forecast response and economics, and track profit-and-loss impact
- Liaises with partners (i.e. Marketing, Phone Channel, Retail) to understand industry and customer trends; Analyzes challenges and identifies areas of opportunity through customer research, focus groups, and external secondary research; Facilitates ideation sessions and builds necessary business cases for new pricing strategies, fee or rate changes, promotional offers, and pricing capabilities, identifying solutions and building stronger plans for growth
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with Product, Acquisition, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations, Technology, and distribution teams, key internal stakeholders and/or external partners to ensure that customer needs are considered in pricing decisions and the development of options, recommendations, and implementation plans
- Leads and facilitates problem solving sessions with partners and vendors to resolve pricing design, data, system, operational, and control issues
- Designs end-to-end process for development, implementation, use, reporting and feedback on assigned pricing initiatives, including implementation requirements, performance reporting, validation, and feedback within established frameworks
- Directs and coordinates market research to determine underlying customer needs – input to pricing strategy, segmentation, offer design, and customer communication
- Participates in the day-to-day management of the pricing portfolio, identifying and implementing rate, fee, promotional, policy, process, and control enhancements, providing business case support of recommendations and assisting in the strategic development of new initiatives
- Adheres to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to pricing governance, change management, product approval, risk management, and controls
- Contributes to financial results for assigned products or portfolios by analyzing rates, fees, promotional terms, balance behavior, attrition, and customer response; creates and delivers business cases to achieve strategic business results (acquisition, retention, customer experience, engagement and market share)
- Supports Senior Management as a subject matter expert for the pricing portfolio, strategy, economics, performance, and risk through all forms of written and verbal presentations (product reviews, planning and forecasting, strategic review sessions)
- Conducts ongoing industry and competitive pricing analysis, including rates, fees, promotional offers, terms, and customer value propositions, and translates findings into recommendations for Product and Acquisition teams
- Keeps current on emerging pricing, regulatory, competitive, data, and technology developments and grows knowledge of the business, related tools and techniques
- Refines pricing strategies through detailed analysis of the P&L, ongoing competitive research and review of marketing/risk management tactics and customer behavior
- Ensures effective pricing procedures and controls are documented and operating within established policies and standards; identifies gaps and recommends enhancements to support business processes and align with risk appetite
- Oversees assigned pricing strategy and execution deliverables within budget and as per the approved roadmap and governance requirements, working with business partners to develop the content of those deliverables
- Champions the development of the annual business plan and the monthly/quarterly forecast process by providing pricing assumptions, analyses, and forecasts for assigned products, including revenue, margin, balances, customer response, and initiative impacts
- Contributes to and supports partner-led projects that affect card pricing, customer terms, profitability, systems, operations, or controls
- Participates and collaborates on initiatives with internal and external service providers (IT, operations, legal, compliance, marketing etc.) to ensure pricing strategies and changes meet TDBG business, customer, regulatory, execution, and control standards
- Identifies and manages risks (market, credit, operational) associated with the assigned pricing work; evaluates compliance, conduct, fair lending, model, reputational, and operational considerations, engages accountable risk partners, and escalates material concerns as applicable
- Develops/maintains productive working relationships with Product, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations, Technology, servicing, acquisition, and distribution owners
- Is knowledgeable of and complies with Bank and Industry Codes of Conduct and applicable pricing, disclosure, and consumer-protection requirements
- Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective execution of established pricing governance, approval, documentation, monitoring, validation, and escalation processes in alignment with risk appetite
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, analytics, mathematics, or a related field; product management or pricing certification is a plus
- 7+ years of relevant experience in pricing, product management, portfolio management, finance, strategy, or analytics within credit cards, consumer lending, or financial services
- Previous pricing or product management experience typically required; direct credit card pricing experience strongly preferred
- Advanced knowledge of and ability to conduct product research, product analysis and development, forecasting, pricing, competitive intelligence, portfolio economics, customer segmentation, and financial modeling
- Knowledge of current and emerging competitor and market trends in credit card rates, fees, promotional offers, rewards economics, and customer value propositions
- Ability to lead, plan, implement and evaluate cross-functional pricing initiatives from strategy and approval through system implementation, customer communication, validation, and post-launch monitoring
- Ability to forecast and contribute to strategic direction of the pricing function and portfolio and provide advice to senior leadership
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form, including translating complex pricing analysis into clear recommendations and executive-ready materials
- Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across Product, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations, Technology, Marketing, and servicing teams
- Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently while owning pricing analyses and workstreams from start to finish
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in making pricing recommendations that balance customer, financial, competitive, operational, and risk considerations
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines across concurrent pricing changes, governance reviews, and performance analyses
- Skill in preparing and managing budgets and P&L, including pricing revenue, margin, volume, attrition, and sensitivity analyses
- Knowledge of and/or skill in using analytical software tools, data analysis methods and reporting techniques to assess customer behavior, portfolio performance, pricing scenarios, and implementation accuracy; experience with SQL, Excel, and data visualization tools preferred
- Skill in using computer applications including MS Office, with advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion, including nonpublic pricing strategies, customer data, financial forecasts, and regulatory or control matters
