Job Description:

Engineering Technician 7 (Advanced)

Reports To: General Manager

Band: Associate Band P07

Location: Lexington, NC FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Operation: Components Supervisory: None

Position Summary: The Engineering Technician is responsible for process improvements and process engineering activities at MasterBrand Lexington (Production Work Instructions, Poka-yokes, Layout Changes, Process Trainings, Line Balancing, Machine Reliability Studies, and Capital Project Execution). This position involves working in a team environment with safety, maintenance, plant production supervision, and corporate engineering support departments.

Essential Functions:

· In-person attendance.

· Assist in Training Appropriate Personnel to complete specialized set-ups per department.

· Lead and assist in maintaining tool log, machine information, and tool inventory.

· Lead/Assist cost improvement opportunities.

· Obtain quotes for engineering improvement projects.

· Work with corporate resources to improve DLV productivity and operations company wide.

· Assist with creating work order requests, supply orders, and part requisitions for machines and tooling.

· Support manufacturing on layout changes and equipment moves for existing or new equipment introductions.

· Work Closely with floor associates to obtain root cause or repetitive machine issues.

· Review history of equipment downtime and analyze the likelihood of repeated failures.

· Analyze the failures. (5 why’s)

· Investigate and create/design the best possible countermeasures and/or early warning indicators to prevent failures.

· Implement countermeasures and monitor results.

· Review, update, and develop Preventative Maintenance Procedures

· Support manufacturing on daily production needs from troubleshooting equipment to program generation as needed.

· Assist/Lead Standard work events and Kaizen Events for Continuous improvement activities for Masterbrand Cabinets.

· Perform advanced troubleshooting equipment during breakdowns (downtime).

· Assist operators and maintenance in machine design, programming, and function issues.

· Assist in confirming machine repeatability.

· Assist managers in resolving non-downtime (nuisance) issues.

· Analyzes, develops and recommends design approaches necessary to meet production requirements for new or improved products and/or processes.

· Support production equipment production needs and justifications for new equipment and processes.

· Support Lean initiatives through use of lean tools to troubleshoot and support production.

· Assist Quality Department with programming of CMDs and analysis of data using Power BI.

· Creating, developing, and programming of Microsoft platforms.

Knowledge and Experience:

General Experience:

· Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience (or BS degree and 5 years’ experience) as an mechanical technician working in an industrial environment.

General Knowledge:

· Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

· Expert in Microsoft Office and Basic proficiency in Microsoft Solutions.

· Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

· Advanced knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulics systems with advanced knowledge of electrical, VFD and PLC systems.

· Must be proficient using devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, megohmmeter, computer, infrared camera, hand tools, scissor lift, forklift, lathe, welder, end mill and hydraulic press.

· Must have experience in automation and artificial intelligence.

· Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

· Ability to accurately use and read tape measure, steel rule, caliper, fixed-gauge measuring devices, micrometers, and other precision instrument, both metric and standard.

· Ability to understand and perform decimal/fraction/metric calculation and conversion.

· Meet, maintain or exceed quality standards.

· Maintain and promote positive attitude, teamwork and cooperation.

Work Environment:

· Able to work without direct supervision while completing tasks assigned.

· Manufacturing environment, with frequent exposure to wood dusts, and cabinet-making related materials such as wood glue, requiring eye protection.

· Exposure to tight spaces and on elevated platforms.

· Exposure to hot and cold temperatures due to climate-controlled environment.

· Exposure to sounds over 85 dB, requiring ear protection.

· Frequent speaking, hearing, near vision, far vision and touch.

Physical:

· Frequent head/neck static position, rotation, flexion and extension.

· Frequent change in torso/back position, frequent stooping, bending and twisting.

· Frequent finger dexterity.

· Frequent sitting, standing, walking, crouching, kneeling, and climbing of stairs and ramps.

· Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching and carrying.

· Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and perform repetitive-motion tasks for the duration of working shift.
