Lead Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance services including troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of all electrical and mechanical systems within the facility. 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Direct maintenance work activities to safely achieve scheduled maintenance objectives, ensuring all required resources (equipment, materials, tools, and labor) are available.
• Partner with Maintenance Manager, Scheduler, and Plant Leadership to ensure production needs are met.
• Direct crew housekeeping and cleaning activities in accordance with area-specific standards and expectations.
• Ensure maintenance work confirmations are accurately and consistently completed in SAP across all shifts.
• Lead and support shift-to-shift communication to ensure critical operational and maintenance information is effectively communicated.
• Partner with site EHS to ensure mandatory training is completed for the department
• Train and track permit certifications for maintenance department
• Enter maintenance notifications, convert notifications into work orders, and assign work in alignment with the maintenance schedule established by the Maintenance and Facility Manager.
• Communicate maintenance issues, equipment concerns, and schedule delays promptly to the Maintenance and Facility Manager and Production teams.
• Assist in maintaining appropriate inventory levels of critical spare parts, equipment, and components.
• Obtain competitive quotations and pricing for replacement parts and maintenance-related purchases.
• Assist with purchase requisitions, invoice processing, and related administrative maintenance functions.
• Ensure Job Task Analyses (JTAs) are reviewed, completed, and signed in a timely manner; provide guidance to technicians regarding JTA requirements and concerns.
• Monitor maintenance processes and activities to ensure departmental metrics are achieved and established JTAs and procedures are followed.
• Develop, coordinate, and lead weekly toolbox talks, training sessions, and safety discussions within the Maintenance Department.
• Support SAP inventory management and stock inventory development processes.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with Production personnel, Maintenance employees, and other stakeholders.
• Promote a safe, productive, and team-oriented work environment.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Maintenance and Facility Manager to meet changing business needs.

Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in an electrical, mechanical, or multi-craft industrial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including email, phone, text, and face-to-face communication.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with production personnel, maintenance employees, and leadership.
• Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize work and accomplish daily responsibilities with minimal supervision.

• Associate degree in a technical field or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
• Experience in writing and managing work permits.
• Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), preferably SAP.
• Prior experience working in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
• Experience with maintenance planning, scheduling, inventory control, and spare parts management.
• Demonstrated leadership experience directing or coordinating maintenance personnel and activities.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods    

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25–50 lbs.   

• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach frequently   

• Ability to use hands repetitively for grasping, handling, and manipulating parts or tools   

• Ability to perform fine motor tasks and maintain manual dexterity   

• Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, noise, and dust   

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes   

• Ability to wear Respirator and SCBA  

• Ability to climb stairs, ladders, or platforms as needed   

• Ability to visually inspect parts and equipment, including close-up work and reading gauges/screens   

• Ability to perspective color  

• Ability to hear and respond to alarms, signals, and verbal instructions   

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain physical stamina   

• Ability to safely operate machinery and equipment   

• Ability to maintain balance and coordination while working around equipment and materials  

Employees must be medically able to safely perform the essential functions of the position and comply with all site safety requirements. Individuals with implanted medical devices, including pacemakers or other devices that may be affected by magnetic fields, electromagnetic equipment, or process-related hazards present in the powder firing area, may be restricted from entering designated work zones.

Working Conditions:

• Position is within a fused quartz manufacturing facility with exposure to high heat, cold and at times broken quartz. Position will require indoor and outdoor work in addition to elevated surfaces and/or roof work. Appropriate PPE is provided for all employees.
