The Opportunity

We are seeking a Vice President to join our Life Sciences team in New York in a science-led seat. This is a role for a dealmaker whose edge is scientific and clinical judgement: you will be a core member of the team who reads the data, forms a view on an asset, and translates that view into valuation, positioning and transaction strategy. You will work alongside execution bankers on biopharma M&A, licensing and partnering, private and public financings, and strategic advisory mandates, and directly with Executive Directors and Managing Directors on client dialogue and origination. Responsibilities

  • Lead scientific and clinical diligence on assets and platforms, including mechanism of action, target validation, clinical data assessment, development risk and probability of success, competitive landscape and differentiation

  • Translate scientific judgement into commercial and valuation outputs, including risk-adjusted NPV and rNPV models, peak sales and patient-based forecasts, discounted cash flow, comparable company and precedent transaction analysis, and deal structures including milestones and royalties

  • Own the scientific narrative in client and investor materials, and present it credibly to boards, management teams, sponsors and institutional investors

  • Support M&A, licensing and partnering, and financing mandates end to end, from target and partner identification through diligence, negotiation support and closing

  • Track the therapeutic and modality landscape, clinical and regulatory catalysts, competitor pipelines, deal comparables and financing markets, and convert that into origination ideas for the team

  • Partner with execution bankers and capital markets colleagues, and lead, review and develop Analysts and Associates on the deal team

  • Contribute to business development and relationship building with biopharma corporate development teams, venture and crossover investors and academic and translational partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience within biopharma investment banking, equity research, corporate or business development and licensing, life sciences strategy consulting, or venture and crossover investing

  • Deep scientific fluency in one or more therapeutic areas or modalities, and the ability to read and interrogate clinical data independently

  • Demonstrated ability to build and defend asset-level valuation and forecasting models, including rNPV

  • Experience leading and developing deal teams or project teams, and owning the quality of the output

  • Credibility and presence with scientific and commercial audiences, from R&D leadership to boards and investors

  • Demonstrated maturity, attention to detail, initiative and problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to changing client and firm needs

Education

  • Advanced degree in the life sciences (PhD, MD, PharmD or MS) or an MBA.

Expected Salary

$250,000 USD
