LPN - Surgical T7 (Inpatient)

Overview ***$2,500 Sign On Bonus 2yr Commitment LPN >1yr External Applicants only*** When unit is full, LPN will work with RNs with highest acuity or will be paired with an RN who has a heavy patient load. When the UNL has patients, the LPN will be paired with the UNL to assist with the UNL patient load. LPN tasks may include oral meds, IV piggyback meds, trach care, dressing changes, documentation on assessments and care plans after the RN has completed the first assessment and initiated the care plan. NT7 is 43- bed unit specializing in the care of acute and chronic digestive surgical patients. We are a bariatric certified unit by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Surgical patients on this unit includes trunk trauma patients, as well high acuity surgical advance care patients. We care for patients with surgical intervention needs from Oral Maxillary Facial Surgery (OMFS) traveling through to Colon Rectal Surgeries. With Carle being a level trauma center most regional trauma patients will be admitted to this unit. Nurse to Patient ratio:

1:4-6 for surgical/medical patients and 1:3 with surgical advanced care patients Department culture and resources:

North Tower 7 is a high acuity critical thinking unit that extensively collaborates with the surgical residents and attendings. The length of stay can vary depending on diagnosis, interventions, and needs of each patient. We focus on being a team to provide the best and safest care to our community. Our connections and education mean the most to our team, and we strive to comfort patients through difficult transitioning periods. We are the highest daisy recognized unit with the organization. Additionally resources for the unit include: a full-time educator, part-time educator, 2 nurse supervisors, a manager, and charge nurses. Frequent nursing skills/equipment used:

wound vacs, TPN, PPN, epidurals, chest tubes, drips, peg tube,

colostomy/ileostomy, tracheostomy, Jp drains, penrose drains,

lift equipment, Foley/IV/NG/Mediport insertions, Central line care and lab draws, Nursing prioritization, IV pumps, PCA pumps, Feeding pumps, Lift equipment, SCDs, Telemetry monitoring, Patient connection

Qualifications Certifications: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)American Heart Association (AHA), Education: College Diploma: Licensed Practical Nurse (Required), Work Experience: LPN >1yr Responsibilities Passes all medications, hangs IV piggybacks and fluids, excluding IV Push meds.Charts assessments on assigned patients, given that an RN has charted the initial assessment.Charts on care plans, which the RN has opened. As needed will have RN open new care plans.Communicates with physicians/APPs to receive orders and coordinate care for patient.Complete dressing changes as needed.Complete trach care as needed.Insert and care for NG tube and feedings through NG tube.Care for and change ostomy.Reinforce education and discharge instructions.Passes all medications, hangs IV piggybacks and fluids, excluding IV Push meds Charts assessments on assigned patients, given that an RN has charted the initial assessment. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $25.73per hour - $41.87per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health.
