Responsibilities

Role and Responsibilities

Assumes shift responsibility and accountability for the planning and provision of direct and indirect nursing care to the patient, family, care partner and appropriate others. Coordinates multi-disciplinary team members, directs and facilitates nursing staff in obtaining safe, optimal health care outcomes. Supports activities that meet the facility vision, mission and goals. Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team. The concepts of Patient Centered Care will provide the foundation for all nursing care. Demonstrates Service Excellence standards at all times. Clinical Supervisor recognizes the signs and symptoms of stroke and calling a stroke alert overhead. Verbalizes stroke alert process. Performs and documents the NIHSS and bedside swallow, assists with telemedicine consult and physician examination/evaluation of thrombolytic therapy inclusion/exclusion criteria, mixing and administration of thrombolytic therapy if patient deemed a candidate, preparation of patient for Endovascular treatment as indicated, assumes patient care of the stroke alert. In addition to the roles and responsibilities of the ICU Nurse, responds to Inpatient Stroke Alerts performs NIHSS and bedside swallow ,documents as required, assists with the telemedicine consult and physician examination/evaluation of thrombolytic therapy inclusion/exclusion criteria, mixing, administration and monitoring of thrombolytic therapy if patient deemed a candidate, preparation of patient for Endovascular treatment as indicated, assumes patient care of the stroke alert. Maintains currency in stroke knowledge by completing the NIHSS training and a minimum of 8 hours of stroke related training annually.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program. BSN preferred.
  • Minimum of one year full time or three years part time experience in acute care specialty nursing. One to three years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and/or required specialty training or course completion (current upon hire) as required by specialty.
  • Current Florida nursing license.
