The role at a glance:
At Biamp, we are deeply immersed in the world of audio and video technologies, driven
by a commitment to tackling challenging problems and devising innovative solutions. If
this resonates with you, you've come to the right place! We are seeking a dynamic and
creative Firmware Engineer to join our Core Technologies Team in Rochester, NY.
Bring your unique talents and enthusiasm and help us shape the future of Biamp's
innovative products.
As part of this role, you'll help us rethink how firmware gets built. We're actively
integrating AI-assisted development into our engineering workflow — using tools like
Claude Code and similar AI coding assistants to speed up everything from writing and
refactoring embedded Linux code to debugging drivers, generating unit tests, and
navigating unfamiliar codebases. You won't just be writing C++ by hand; you'll be
learning to pair effectively with AI to move faster on multithreaded applications, driver
development, and networking products, while still applying the deep systems-level
judgment that AI can't replace. If you're excited about being on the leading edge of how firmware teams actually work in an AI-augmented world, this is the place to figure that
out.
How you’ll contribute:
Develop, test, and maintain critical firmware components that are central to Biamp’s innovative products and solutions
Lead efforts in developing cutting-edge technologies that are integral to Biamp’s products, enhancing their performance and capabilities
Collaborate with a fun, tech-savvy crew to bring product requirements and technical specifications to life
Contribute to system architecture design and introduce fresh ideas to spearhead new project initiatives
Use your problem-solving prowess to debug and optimize system performance, enhancing efficiency
Co-create technical documentation and user manuals for developed core technology components
Stay on the pulse of industry trends and drive innovative solutions
Leverage AI workflows in the firmware development process
A successful candidate should have:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
Solid foundation in C/C++ programming languages in Linux development environments
Interest in systems-level Linux development, driver development, and C++ multithreaded applications in embedded systems
Stellar problem-solving skills, a knack for debugging, and an insatiable curiosity for optimization
Enthusiastic "Maker" mentality with a passion for creating and building things, driven to bring innovative ideas to life
Strong drive to learn and explore new technologies, fueled by curiosity about how things work
Ability to rapidly dive deep into unfamiliar technologies as needed to solve complex problems, while maintaining versatility across a broad range of technical domains
Be a self-starting, team-playing individual who loves crossing the finish line with the group
Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts in a simple manner
Some nice-to-haves:
Familiarity with the Yocto project and building custom Linux distributions
Experience developing firmware for Linux based embedded systems
Interest or experience in developing firmware for advanced networked devices
Familiar with AVB, Dante, and other advanced network protocols and concepts
Experience with revision control systems such as Git
An understanding and appreciation of agile development practices
