Do you want to be part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team of editors that supports authors across the Cell Press portfolio of Life and Medical Science journals?
About our team
We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist to join the Research Integrity and Author Experience team as a cross-journal editor. We work across the Cell Press Life and Medical Science portfolio of journals and a broad range of scientific topics. This is a dynamic and unique team that supports editors and authors to optimize publishing success and works on cross-journal projects and initiatives at Cell Press.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to closely engage with editors and authors to help publish cutting-edge research while gaining familiarity with multiple Cell Press journals across a range of topics. You will be closely engaged in all aspects of editorial work at Cell Press and support innovation within the publishing process, with dynamic work arrangements considered. We will consider candidates with expertise across the areas of life and medical science covered by Cell Press journals. A wide interest in science outside of one’s own expertise is highly encouraged. This is a full-time editorial position and we have a preference for candidates located near our Massachusetts USA office.

Responsibilities
- Assessing submitted research papers and overseeing the peer review and editorial process
- Guiding authors through various aspects of the publishing process
- Supporting authors’ publishing decisions related to transfer between journals
- Building effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond
- Establishing relationships with researchers and representing Cell Press at scientific meetings and visits to research institutions
- Improving on the editorial process for editors and reviewers
- Contributing to broader Cell Press initiatives to shape the future of science communication
Requirements
- A Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline within the life or medical sciences
- Passion to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues, with a willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research
- Talent for distilling complex concepts and communicating them
- Ability to work flexibly and creatively, with a willingness to experiment and a desire to enhance author service
- Strong ability to communicate clearly, with an interest in science communication and publishing trends
- Interest in engaging with the scientific community
- Strong teamwork skills and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset and the ability to work well in diverse team settings, across time zones and countries
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to balance a range of priorities to achieve overall team goals

U.S. National Base Pay Range: $59,200 - $98,600. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates.
