Wayside Garage
Location: Seaside, California
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Pay Rate: $33.80-$65.00 per hour based on production tier
Pay Type: Hourly plus production-based rate increases
Pay Schedule: Weekly
Typical Flagged Hours: 35+ hours per week expected; current B/C-level technicians regularly produce 40+ hours

About Wayside Garage
Wayside Garage is seeking an experienced Automotive Technician to join its team in Seaside, California. This is a Monday-Friday position paying $33.80-$65.00 per hour through an hourly, production-based pay structure. The third-generation shop works on a broad mix of domestic, Asian, European, truck, and some heavy-duty vehicles, with Ford and Toyota among its most common makes. Technicians join a collaborative team focused on quality repairs, thorough diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and continued training.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform automotive diagnostics, testing, maintenance, and mechanical repairs on a variety of vehicles.
- Diagnose vehicle concerns at a basic-to-intermediate level while continuing to develop diagnostic skills.
- Complete steering and suspension repairs and other general automotive repair work.
- Perform timing belt, head gasket, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, transmission, and other labor-intensive repairs.
- Perform preventive maintenance and vehicle inspections as part of the shop's maintenance-focused approach.
- Complete digital vehicle inspections with photos, videos, and detailed findings using the shop's established process.
- Use available scan tools and diagnostic equipment, including Snap-on, Autel, and Bosch equipment.
- Work with the production lead and service team to maintain an efficient, quality-focused workflow.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of automotive repair experience required
- Experience performing general automotive maintenance and repair work.
- Basic-to-intermediate automotive diagnostic ability with a willingness to continue developing diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work across a variety of domestic, Asian, and European vehicles.
- Personal automotive tools appropriate for this technician level.
- ASE certifications are preferred but not required; Wayside Garage supports technicians working toward certification.
- Willingness to take initiative, research unfamiliar concerns, learn new procedures, and work collaboratively with the team.
Compensation & Benefits
- $33.80 per hour starting base rate for this position.
- Production-based rate increases begin at 30 produced hours and increase at additional production tiers, with rates up to $65.00 per hour.
- Weekly pay.
- Medical insurance with 50% of the employee premium covered, up to $500.
- 100% of the employee premium covered for dental and vision insurance; dependent coverage is the employee's responsibility.
