Paraprofessional (HHA/CNA)
Hourly Rate: $23.70/hr starting 8/01/2026
Location: All 5 boroughs: Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island
Position Summary:
After completing a full day of FREE Nonviolent Crisis Prevention training, you will provide 1:1 support to a student with behavioral and/or medical needs that require dedicated adult assistance. Support may occur in a classroom setting and/or on district-provided transportation. Student ages range from preschool through high school. We are seeking compassionate, dependable adults who can help maintain a safe and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
Schedule/Shift
- 5 days a week
- Should be available between 7:00am - 5:00pm. Hours will vary depending on school site
- Position is for the entire school year unless stated otherwise
Key Duties: - Provide 1:1 support to your assigned student as outlined on the Individualized Education Program
- Collaborate with school based staff to determine best practices to address student needs
- Monitor student during academic and non-academic times to ensure safety
- Students may require behavioral support, medical support, ambulation support and/or toileting support
Requirements
Education License & Certifications - HHA or CNA certification strongly preferred
Skills - Communication skills (clear, patient communication with students; professional updates to teachers and families)
- Behavior support & de-escalation (follow behavior plans, stay calm, use safe crisis-prevention techniques)
- Empathy and patience (support students with diverse learning/medical needs without escalating situations)
- Reliability & attention to detail (consistent attendance, accurate documentation, and careful supervision for safety)
