OKUMA CNC Specialist 3rd Shift

The Role:

As the OKUMA CNC Specialist, you will join our Durex Industries and support... Responsible for operating, setting up, and making adjustments to CNC machines equipped with Okuma controls. This position works from blueprints, drawings, work instructions, and production specifications to produce quality parts efficiently and accurately. The ideal candidate has hands-on CNC machining experience, understands Okuma controls, and is comfortable making routine machine and tooling adjustments.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Operate CNC machines equipped with Okuma controls safely and efficiently.
  • Set up machines by loading tooling, fixtures, workholding, and materials according to job requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and basic GD&T.
  • Load, verify, and make approved adjustments to CNC programs as needed.
  • Make tool offsets, wear adjustments, and other routine machine adjustments to maintain part quality.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools based on the material and machining requirements.
  • Monitor machine operations and identify issues related to tooling, programming, workholding, or part quality.
  • Inspect finished and in-process parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring equipment.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and communicate machine or quality concerns to the appropriate supervisor or programmer.
  • Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
  • Perform routine machine cleaning, chip removal, and basic preventative maintenance.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and production procedures.
  • Work closely with machinists, programmers, quality personnel, and supervisors to meet production requirements.
  • Assist with process improvements and tooling changes when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Requirements:
  • Previous CNC machining experience, preferably with Okuma-controlled equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Okuma CNC controls and basic CNC machine operation.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Basic understanding of CNC programs, tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining processes.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Ability to perform basic CNC setups and make routine offsets and adjustments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic machining and tooling issues.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures.
  • Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to learn additional CNC programming, setup, and machining skills as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Okuma OSP controls.
  • CNC turning, milling, or multi-axis machining experience.
  • Familiarity with G-code and M-code.
  • Experience with tooling selection and optimization.
  • Experience working in a production or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to make minor program edits or adjustments at the machine.

Pay Range: $28.00 - $36.00 an hour
