Daikin Applied is seeking an experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) Controls Sales Professional to support and grow our Controls business in the SWFL market.
This individual will be responsible for developing new business opportunities and expanding existing customer relationships across Plan & Spec/New Construction, retrofit, modernization, and service-based BAS projects. The ideal candidate will have established experience within the building automation industry and a strong understanding of Tridium Niagara, Distech Controls, Honeywell, and open-protocol BAS solutions.
This is a relationship-driven, technical sales position requiring the ability to work with Mechanical Contractors, General Contractors, Consulting Engineers, Facility Owners, Property Managers, and other key decision-makers throughout the construction and building lifecycle.
Location: Bradenton, Sarasota, Punta Gorda, Ft. Myers and Naples, FL
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute a sales strategy to grow BAS Controls revenue throughout the Tampa Bay market.
• Identify, pursue, and close Plan & Spec/New Construction BAS opportunities through Mechanical Contractors, General Contractors, engineers, and construction partners.
• Develop owner-direct opportunities including BAS retrofits, system upgrades, expansions, integrations, and modernization projects.
• Grow recurring and project-based Controls Service opportunities with both existing and new customers.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Mechanical Contractors, General Contractors, Consulting Engineers, building owners, facility managers, and other industry partners.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, equipment schedules, and controls requirements to identify opportunities and develop appropriate BAS solutions.
• Understand and communicate BAS architectures including controllers, supervisory devices, networks, integrations, front-end platforms, and field devices.
• Develop conceptual system designs and work with estimating and operations teams to create accurate, competitive proposals.
• Conduct customer presentations, job walks, scope reviews, and technical discussions.
• Manage opportunities throughout the complete sales cycle. From initial identification and qualification through estimating, proposal development, negotiation, and award.
• Maintain an active sales pipeline and provide accurate forecasting of upcoming opportunities.
• Work closely with Controls Operations, estimating, project management, service, and engineering teams to ensure sold projects can be successfully executed.
• Identify opportunities to replace or modernize aging or proprietary BAS systems with scalable, open-platform solutions.
• Develop long-term account strategies rather than focusing solely on individual project transactions.
• Maintain awareness of the local construction market, upcoming projects, competitive activity, and emerging BAS technologies.
Preferred Experience & Qualifications:
• 5+ years of BAS/Building Automation sales experience preferred, with consideration given to highly experienced BAS professionals who have demonstrated success in customer-facing business development roles.
• Proven experience selling Plan & Spec/New Construction controls projects as well as retrofit and service opportunities.
• Working knowledge of Tridium Niagara/Niagara 4.
• Experience with Distech Controls and Honeywell products and systems strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of BACnet and open-protocol building automation systems.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems including AHUs, RTUs, VAV systems, chilled-water plants, central plants, hydronic systems, and associated controls.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans, BAS specifications, sequences of operation, points lists, and construction documents.
• Established relationships within the SWFL construction, mechanical contracting, engineering, or commercial building market are highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to develop opportunities independently and build a territory.
• Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Comfortable communicating with both technical personnel and executive-level decision-makers.
• Ability to manage multiple opportunities while maintaining accurate forecasting and follow-up.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the SWFL market.
