Middle School Humanities Teacher, 8th grade
Location: 1780 Betty Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89156
Start Date: 2026–2027 School Year
Compensation Range: $54,000 – $60,813 annually (DOE)
Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.
AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven Middle School Humanities Teacher to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that develops students’ reading, writing, communication, critical thinking, historical reasoning, and analytical skills.
AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, meaningful discussion, and consistent use of data to inform instruction.
The ideal candidate is committed to supporting students in Title I communities while maintaining high academic expectations and creating a positive, engaging, and academically rigorous classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Achievement
- Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned humanities instruction aligned with AMS curriculum frameworks
- Develop students’ reading comprehension, writing, critical thinking, research, and analytical skills
- Teach historical concepts, civic understanding, geography, and social studies content through engaging and relevant lessons
- Incorporate primary sources, literature, informational texts, current events, and real-world applications into instruction
- Develop students’ ability to analyze evidence, construct arguments, and communicate ideas effectively
- Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level
- Use formative and summative assessment data to guide instructional planning and targeted interventions
- Prepare students for grade-level standards and assessments through engaging and purposeful instruction
Classroom Culture & Student Support
- Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment
- Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies
- Create an inclusive classroom that encourages respectful discussion, collaboration, and diverse perspectives
- Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development
- Encourage curiosity, civic engagement, thoughtful discussion, and a love of learning
- Maintain a safe, organized, and academically focused learning environment
Collaboration & Professional Growth
- Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities
- Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to strengthen instructional practices
- Analyze student data and adjust instruction to improve student outcomes
- Share effective instructional strategies and best practices with colleagues
- Contribute to school-wide systems focused on student achievement and continuous improvement
Family Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic expectations
- Lead parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home-school partnerships
- Provide families with appropriate updates regarding student achievement, classroom expectations, and areas for growth
- Encourage families to support students’ reading, writing, and academic development at home
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Valid teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education (NDE)
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Humanities, Social Studies, History, Education, English, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom and create a positive learning environment
- Commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities
- Strong analytical skills and enthusiasm for data-driven instruction
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and instructional leaders
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous middle school humanities, social studies, history, or English language arts teaching experience
- Experience teaching history, civics, geography, literature, or interdisciplinary humanities coursework
- Experience working in Title I schools
- Experience supporting English Language Learners
- Experience incorporating primary sources, project-based learning, research, and academic discussion
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred
