Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTION
The Lead Medical Assistant (LMA) works under the Regional Laboratories Associate Director (RLAD), Lab and Clinical Directors to assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care during clinic hours. This position assists the supervisors in training new staff. The LMA works as part of a health care team including physicians, NP/PA’s, nurses and medical assistants (MA) to provide comprehensive care.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The LMA will follow all NYCBS laboratory policies and procedures. - Ensures supervised MAs adhere to all New York Cancer and Blood Specialists (NYCBS) policy and procedure. - Assists in all responsibilities supervised MA staff provide such as, phlebotomy, processing and requisition completion. i.e Flow, Urine Pathology and Labdaq Requisitions, spinning of blood and bagging of specimens 2. Assigns and organizes work priorities by effectively directing workflow within their offices.
3. Support supervised MA staff with the operation and functionality of all Hematology Instrumentation.
4. Complete all lab documentation with accuracy and consistency necessary for all laboratory inspections, including regular state inspections.
5. Active participation in the training and competency of supervised MAs.
6. Works with management, including assigned location’s head nurse, to develop department goals which align with organizational priorities and goals.
7. Provide regular feedback to RLAD to improve office workflow and efficiency. 8. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and 2+ years of applicable experience. Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
