Organization:
SPMF-Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation - SouthPosition Overview:
Maintains scheduling for surgical and specialized procedures for assigned department(s). Coordinates surgical services with physicians' offices, and other related departments and may be required to verify room and equipment availability. Responsible for documentation of patient's procedure and physician information; logs the completed procedures; and may generate a surgical procedure charge sheet. Performs additional associated duties as requested by manager, while simultaneously ensuring the accuracy of the schedule.Job Description:

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
SURGERY SCHEDULING:
• Schedules surgeries and specialized procedures according to department protocols.
• Confirms scheduled surgeries against surgeons allotted times and may need to verify room availability, equipment and supply requirements.
• Schedules surgical procedures using organization’s protocols for scheduling block time or open availability and enters data into an established database.
• Organizes, reschedules and updates changes made to schedules, may need to provide follow up calls to patients and provide rescheduled dates\times.
• Coordinates open clinic times when physician does not have scheduled surgical cases.
• Documents all procedures scheduled accurately and according to department protocols.
• Ensures accurate coordination of authorizations prior to scheduled procedures.
• Verifies and coordinates insurance eligibility and referrals for patients based on department requirements.
• Facilitates transfer of patients for appropriate services when needed.
• Provides ownership of specialized projects or reports based on assigned department.
• Performs additional duties which may include floating to other related areas for support.
• Orders appropriate supplies and stocks appropriate workstations.
COMMUNICATION:
• Collaborates with department staff and providers to ensure all necessary equipment and/or vendors are requested.
• Provides treatment instructions other related information, as needed.
• Participates with training of new hires within the department.
EDUCATION:
HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
2 years recent relevant experience.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
Intermediate computer skills to include keyboarding, mouse movement, data entry and scheduling programs.
Verbal/written communication skills for frequent and challenging contact with physicians, employees, patients and patient families; requires patience and compassion.
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks in order to complete assignments within the time allotted and maintain standard workflow.
Ability to work with others in a flexible and cooperative manner.
Ability to maintain composure during challenging interpersonal interactions.
Active listening skills; including interpersonal skills and telephone communication.
Ability to handle multiple procedures and interruptions throughout the day.
