DESCRIPTION
The Senior Manager, Product Development will lead the development of innovative products and analytical solutions supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing. This role combines scientific and technical leadership, product development, people management, and hands-on problem solving to advance new products from concept through commercialization.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative, results-oriented leader with strong scientific and technical acumen and a demonstrated ability to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of product development. The ideal candidate will be both capable of and willing to engage directly in laboratory work when needed, while fostering an onsite culture of innovation, scientific rigor, collaboration, accountability, and safety.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the development and execution of analytical products and solutions for pharmaceutical manufacturing from concept through commercialization.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a multifunctional team of scientists, instrument engineers, software engineers, and technicians.
- Foster an onsite culture of scientific rigor, collaboration, accountability, innovation, and safety.
- Partner with Product Management, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, and other functions to advance programs through key product development milestones.
- Oversee R&D processes, laboratory utilization, resource allocation, and team productivity to improve development efficiency and execution.
- Oversee laboratory operations to maintain safe, efficient, and compliant working practices.
- Identify and implement opportunities to strengthen product development processes, accelerate execution, and improve overall R&D effectiveness.
REQUIREMENTS
- Advanced degree plus 6 years of relevant experience in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing multifunctional product development teams that may include scientists, instrument engineers, software engineers, and technicians.
- Experience developing molecular and cellular biology systems or products in regulated environments, with knowledge of regulatory compliance, ISO standards, and Stage Gate or similar product development methodologies.
- Expertise in PCR, NGS, proteomics, and/or related technologies relevant to pharmaceutical analytics.
- Experience with analytical instrumentation and related technologies used in pharmaceutical applications is preferred.
- Strong hands-on laboratory skills and demonstrated experience managing laboratory operations.
- Strong scientific and technical acumen with excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead effectively within a matrix organization, build strong cross-functional partnerships, and drive teams toward shared objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to improve R&D productivity, development processes, and execution efficiency.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, and developing scientific and technical talent.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical topics effectively to diverse audiences.
- Commitment to maintaining safety, quality, and compliance as core priorities in all development and laboratory activities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across functions, locations, and time zones.
- Ability to work onsite as the default mode of operation and engage directly in laboratory activities when business and development needs require.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $156,000.00–$234,000.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
