Full job description
Responsibilities:
- Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients to desensitize them to permit the performance of medical or surgical procedures.
- Performs pre-anesthesia evaluation of the patient to ascertain physiological and psychological factors that influence the selection of the anesthetic agent and the formulation of the plan of anesthetic management.
- Monitors the patient in the operating room to maintain the patient in a homeostatic condition and to assure that unnecessary injuries are not inflicted on the patient.
- Records anesthetic information on the anesthesia chart to provide a permanent record necessary for the care of the patient, to provide material for teaching, for study, and to establish a medical-legal record.
- Provides clinical supervision or guidance of nurse anesthesia students, paramedical, and medical students to contribute to their clinical training.
- Responds to emergencies.
- Manages Human Resources activities of the department in regard to recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Certification as a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
- Current New York Licensure as a Registered Nurse and APRN.
- Current American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) certification.
- BLS, ACLS, and/or other specialty certifications as required by the department.
- A minimum of 6 months of experience in anesthetizing pediatric patients is desirable.
- Competency in pediatric airway device placement and vascular access.
- Experience in critical and acute care areas, especially pediatric or neonatal.
- Familiarity with EKG, arterial, central venous, and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring.
- Skilled in respiratory management and blood gas analysis.
