Job Description:

The Director leads the college’s efforts to infuse life design and career development perspectives throughout the curriculum and co-curriculum while expanding opportunities for multiple forms of work-based learning. Internally, the Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the Career Education Office while serving as a highly visible partner to faculty and staff throughout the college. Externally, the Director develops and leads an employer relations strategy with the goal of expanding work-based learning opportunities, including but not limited to internships, for all Goucher students.

 

Essential Job Functions:

30%  A.   Internal Strategy, Outreach, and Programming

 

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends and best practices for enhancing career education offerings and student post-graduation outcomes. Marshall this knowledge to formulate and implement strategies appropriate to Goucher’s institutional profile and culture.

• Collaborate with faculty and staff throughout the college to incorporate career and life design perspectives into classroom-based teaching and learning; experiential education opportunities (including but not limited to study abroad and community-based learning); co-curricular programs (including but not limited to Athletics, Residence Life, and the Student Government Association); and success and academic advising.

• Develop and deliver presentations, workshops, and trainings for faculty and staff and curate and share related resources as appropriate.

• Support the promotion and delivery of the 2-credit course, Introduction to Career and Life Design; serve as Teaching Assistant or Instructor of Record, as appropriate based on qualifications.

• Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure program efficacy.

 

30 %  B.   Employer and Community Relations

 

• In coordination with the AVP for GCCBL and members of the President’s Cabinet and college Board of Trustees, develop and implement an employer outreach strategy to expand work-based learning and post-graduation employment opportunities for Goucher students. Areas of emphasis include but are not limited to local and regional corporations, state and local government agencies, area non-profit organizations, and Goucher alumnae/i.

• Work with other college units (e.g., Advancement, Athletics) to ensure comprehensive coordination and tracking of employer outreach efforts.

• Conduct outreach to current and prospective employer partners to ascertain the most desirable knowledge and skills for graduates in different fields. Relay those perspectives to relevant faculty and staff and facilitate direct dialogue, as appropriate, between employers and Goucher faculty and staff.

• In coordination with college leadership, serve as an external spokesperson for Goucher’s career education and life design efforts before a range of audiences.

 

30%  C.  Career Education Office Operations

 

• Oversee the effective and efficient delivery of core office functions such as classroom presentations, resume review, and one-on-one career counseling.

• Oversee the delivery of the college’s internship program – including applications for academic credit, micro-internships, and Goucher Intern Funding – and the continuous improvement of the policies and procedures that govern it.

•  Oversee the efficient and compliant administration of the Student Employment program and work to strengthen its role in student career exploration and development. Support staff in managing policy questions as needed.

• Create and manage office budgets.

• Support the professional development of office staff and assist team members as needed with the prioritization of different tasks.

• Hold counseling appointments and deliver classroom presentations as needed and appropriate to supplement staffing capacity.

10 % D. Data and Storytelling

• In collaboration with the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, lead efforts to enhance Goucher’s knowledge rate related to post-graduation outcomes. Recommend and implement strategies including in-house outreach and surveys and third-party services.

• In coordination with the AVP of GCCBL, develop and implement measures of program impact among current students.

• Collaborate with the Office of Marketing and Communications and the Division of Enrollment and Student Success to tell the story of Goucher’s work with career and life design and its impact on the student experience and post-graduation outcomes.

 

Education:

Required:  Master’s degree in higher education, business, or another relevant field. 

Preferred:  Doctoral degree.

Professional Experience:

Required:  Five years of experience in higher education, some of which must have involved supervision, and a demonstrated record of building employer and/or community partnerships and overseeing experiential education programs.

Preferred:  Seven or more years of experience in higher education and prior leadership of institutional efforts to scale career education, work-based learning, and/or experiential education opportunities. Prior college-level teaching experience will be an asset.
