System Medical Director, Gastroenterology

Prisma Health is seeking an accomplished physician leader to serve as System Medical Director of Gastroenterology, providing strategic, clinical, and operational leadership across South Carolina and Eastern Tennessee.

The System Medical Director will partner with administrative leaders in a dyad model to advance clinical quality, patient access, operational performance, workforce development, and program growth across a large, academically integrated gastroenterology service line. The position combines approximately 50% clinical practice and 50% administrative leadership, allowing candidates to maintain an active clinical presence while driving systemwide transformation.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop and execute a systemwide vision and strategy for Gastroenterology.

* Align GI services, endoscopy operations, and specialty programs across multiple regions.

* Lead initiatives to improve quality, safety, patient outcomes, and care standardization.

* Partner with operational leaders to enhance access, efficiency, throughput, and financial performance.

* Support physician and APP recruitment, retention, mentorship, and leadership development.

* Advance multidisciplinary programs in hepatology, IBD, GI oncology, advanced endoscopy, and population health.

* Utilize data and analytics to drive performance improvement and reduce variation across sites.

Qualifications

Required

* MD or DO with Board Certification in Gastroenterology

* Eligible for South Carolina and Tennessee medical licensure

* Five or more years of leadership experience in a clinical, academic, or health system setting

* Demonstrated success in clinical excellence, quality improvement, operations, and multidisciplinary collaboration

Preferred

* Multi-site or regional leadership experience

* Academic leadership experience

* Expertise in hepatology, advanced endoscopy, or related GI subspecialties

* Experience working in a dyad leadership model
