Description of Work

THE DAY PRIOR TO THE END DATE LISTED ON THIS JOB POSTING***The North Carolina Department of Revenue is recruiting for an Administrative Specialist I Property Tax in our Local Government Division. The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Handle daily activities that are administrative in nature. This can include answering calls, scanning and copying files for staff as needed, ordering supplies, reserving rooms for conferences, filing and logging documents submitted to our division, mailing documents, and other administrative duties
• Timely and accurately log, respond, and file all property tax commission appeals
• Audit filings of Notices of Appeal and Applications for Hearing to the Property Tax Commission (PTC) to ensure that the Notices are properly completed and verify that the required documents are included
• Contact taxpayers or their attorneys (or in some cases the counties) if documents are not properly before the Commission
• Answer and handle more technical calls concerning the PTC forms that must be completed to perfect an appeal to the PTC
• Assist the HR Liaison as well as assist the timekeeper for the division, ensuring all time has been entered for all staff
• Enter sales ratio studies for all 100 counties periodically as needed
• Track legislative bills that have been introduced effecting property taxes
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to make accurate and effective decisions with minimal supervision
- Excellent oral and written communication skills while delivering communications in a clear and concise manner
- Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word and Outlook
Recruitment Range: $39,244 - $50,000
Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
