OverviewWelding Engineer - Supplier Oversight (Welding & NDT Engineering)We are seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to join our Supplier Oversight Group, supporting the fabrication of critical components used in the construction of nuclear submarines. This role provides a unique opportunity to work closely with suppliers, internal teams, and government customers while influencing the quality and reliability of complex welded structures.
Key Responsibilities • Conduct audits of supplier welding operations to verify compliance with contractual and technical requirements.
• Follow up on audit findings and collaborate with suppliers to resolve issues impacting in‑process or delivered hardware.
• Review and approve supplier welding procedures, ensuring alignment with specifications and industry standards.
• Evaluate and disposition vendor information requests.
• Deliver welding training, technical guidance, and ongoing support to suppliers.
• Communicate welding and fabrication issues clearly and professionally to SUPSHIP, NAVSEA customers, and internal Electric Boat stakeholders.
• Travel to supplier locations as needed, typically up to one week at a time and up to once per month.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology in one of the following disciplines:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Welding Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Materials Engineering (with a focus on metallic materials)
• Minimum of 5 years of postgraduate engineering experience in an industrial welding environment, shipbuilding, or other heavy fabrication settings.
• This role will require travel to supplier locations as needed, typically up to one week at a time and up to once per month.
Preferred Qualifications:• Hands‑on experience with fundamental arc welding processes and a strong understanding of welding metallurgy.
• Demonstrated leadership experience.
Skills - Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are a must
