Overview:
Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department | Level I Trauma Center
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse Unit Coordinator for our Emergency Department, home to Hampton Roads' only Level I Trauma Center. This is an opportunity to join a high-performing emergency nursing team where clinical skill, teamwork, and purpose come together to make an immediate impact for patients and families across the region.

Location: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital - Norfolk, VA
Position Status: Full-time, 36 hours per week
Shift: Evening
Available Hours:
11:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.
Weekends: Every other weekend availability required
Holiday Rotation: Required

Our 53-bed Emergency Department is equipped to manage a wide range of medical emergencies, with approximately 10% of cases related to trauma .
As part of a Level I Trauma Center, you will work alongside experienced emergency medicine providers, specialists, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver timely, high-quality care when patients need it most. Nurses in this department gain exposure to complex emergency, trauma, cardiac, stroke, critical care, and specialty cases while building advanced clinical skills in a collaborative environment.
Sentara Norfolk General Emergency Department has been recognized with the Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award , honoring exceptional and innovative leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research .
Education Requirements
- BSN Required
Certification/Licensure Requirements
- Registered Nurse license required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
- NIHSS, TCRN, SCRN, TNCC, CEN, PALS, and ACLS preferred
Experience Requirements
- 18 months RN experience Required
- Emergency Department experience preferred
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Strong candidates with related acute care, critical care, intermediate care, trauma, cardiac, stroke, or med/surg experience are encouraged to apply
