Key Responsibilities
Versatile Fleet Operations: Safely operate commercial trucks across all lines of business, including:
Travel & Site Support: Travel to GFL locations within the Virginia region (80% of the time) and occasionally outside the region as operational needs require.
Operational Leadership & Support: Assist with daily driver crew-outs, debrief processes, route analysis, scalehouse, and dispatch operations.
Safety & Compliance: Monitor daily pre/post-trip inspections, conduct weekly vehicle inspections (Safety Lane), ensure adherence to company safety and regulatory standards, and coordinate with shop managers on truck maintenance and repairs.
Training & Mentorship: Serve as a mentor to existing drivers, conduct new hire training observations, sign-offs, and coaching events.
Customer & Community Service: Courteously interact with customers and the public along routes, maintaining clean customer sites and representing GFL positively.
Travel & Compensation Details
Requirements
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
Minimum of three (3) years of commercial driving experience.
Minimum of one (1) year of commercial driving experience in the solid waste/hauling industry.
Experience operating standard transmissions on commercial trucks (depending on location).
Ability to drive and operate equipment across all lines of business (Front Load, Roll-off, Rear Load, Automated Side Load).
Flexibility to travel frequently across the region and adapt to changing operational needs.
Must meet criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to company standards.
Knowledge, Skills, & Physical Demands
Strong knowledge of commercial truck components, preventive maintenance, and state/federal safety regulations.
Excellent communication skills for interacting with dispatch, management, site staff, and customers.
Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds repetitively and maneuver vehicles in tight or high-traffic areas.
Comfort working outdoors up to 100% of the time in varying weather conditions.
