Summary 

Conduct clinical research studies and implement research protocolProvide and document research observations and perform precise collection of specimens. 

 

Primary Responsibilities  

  • Coordinate, evaluate and follow patient participation in clinical research.  This includes, but is not limited to identifying, enrolling and consenting patients, organizing study visits and follow-ups, responding to patient telephone calls. 

  • Assist in the collection and evaluation of data. 

  • Under physician direction, perform protocol-specific clinical tasks including patient assessment, screening, ordering tests, collecting specimens, and monitoring responsesMay administer medication or types of protocol specific intervention. 

  • Provide patient and family educationMay provide staff education concerning research protocols as required. 

  • Complete all forms required for proper protocol documentationMaintain patient recordsEnter patient data into database and other programsMaintain confidentiality of all patient-related records including written and verbal communications.

  • Identify problems or obstacles in the system/procedures related to implementation of the research protocols and communicate to the study investigatorsNotify appropriate personnel of any complications or untoward effects of research studies. 

  • Assist with the writing and submission of IRB protocols, grant applications, and consent forms. Assure compliance with all relevant IRB and other regulatory agency requirements. 

  • Distribute and mail samples as specified. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities 

  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.  

  • Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills. 

 

Qualifications 

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.  

 

Minimum Required Education:    Associate’s degree 

Minimum Required Experience:       2 years  

    

Preferred Certification/Licensure(s):  Wisconsin RN License 

 

Physical Requirements 

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously. 

 

Work Environment 

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment. 

 

Sensory Acuity 

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
