Mechanical Engineering Co-OpJob Description Summary
Dauch is looking for a motivated and highly organized Mechanical Engineering College Co-Op to join our team! This role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering while working closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Engineering leadership, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.This role will support day-to-day engineering activities, project coordination, data management, continuous improvement initiatives, and new program implementation. This position is ideal for a student who would enjoy manufacturing environment and wants to develop both technical engineering and project management skills.
Job Description:
- Support the ordering and follow-up of tooling, fixtures, broach bars, locators, and other manufacturing equipment.
- Communicate with suppliers and vendors through phone and email to obtain updates and resolve outstanding items.
- Assist with basic tool and fixture design using NX 3D CAD software.
- Gain exposure to manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and basic mechanical engineering principles.
- Help develop and maintain a list of continuous improvement and future engineering projects.
- Support APEX improvement initiatives and new program implementation activities.
- Support the Manufacturing Engineering Manager with data requests, project tracking, reminders, and follow-up activities.
- Assist with ERP, control plan, and FMEA edits and updates.
- Attend engineering and cross-functional meetings and maintain accurate meeting notes and action items.
- Follow up on ECR activities with other departments to ensure action items are completed.
- Maintain organized project files and engineering documentation.
- Assist with project tracking and timing.
- Create and maintain weekly engineering reports and presentations.
- Assist with preparing presentations for Manufacturing Engineers and leadership.
- Organize system files and maintain accurate engineering documentation.
- Provide general administrative and coordination support to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and team.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Education
- Currently pursuing a Bachelors degree full time in preferably Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Ability to work year-round while attending college.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Able to work a minimum of 25 hours/weekly.
- Ability to understand and apply basic mechanical and manufacturing principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Basic knowledge of 3D CAD, design principles, and experience with NX 3D CAD is preferred.
