πŸ₯ What You'll Do

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), the Patient Care Tech provides direct patient care and support services to help patients achieve their highest level of wellness.

Responsibilities include both clinical and non-clinical duties while collaborating with the healthcare team to deliver exceptional emergency care.

Direct Patient Care

  • Assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living
  • Assist with ambulation, repositioning, transfers, and mobility needs
  • Monitor and document dietary intake and output
  • Observe for skin breakdown and provide preventative care measures
  • Obtain and accurately document vital signs and patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Assist with patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and belongings

Emergency Department Clinical Support

Depending on department needs, training, and competency validation, duties may include:

  • Point-of-care testing and specimen collection
  • Blood culture collection
  • Enteral tube feeding
  • Non-sterile wound care and dressing changes
  • IV removal
  • Suture tray setup
  • Chest tube setup
  • Visual acuity testing
  • Pelvic exam setup
  • Burn dressing changes and debridement
  • Handheld Bovie pen assistance
  • Whirlpool wound care treatments

Team Collaboration

  • Recognize and report changes in patient condition immediately
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Utilize sound clinical judgment and effective time management skills Demonstrate flexibility in a fast-paced emergency care environment
  • Accept delegated responsibilities while practicing within established scope of practice
  • Perform clerical duties as needed, including answering phones and monitoring call systems
