Full job description
Family Medicine physician job in Washington : Serves as a Physician in a Defense Health Agency (DHA) Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). The purpose of the position is to apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients. MAJOR DUTIES: 1. Serves as a recognized technical authority in the delivery of Family Medicine. Also serves as a recognized technical authority in the Urgent Care Clinic, as needed. Independently formulates full treatment plans based on sound evaluation and diagnoses consistent with current and/ or evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. Diagnoses illnesses and prescribes and administers healthcare treatment plans for people suffering from injury or disease. Coordinates with facility and community resources to provide multi-disciplinary comprehensive care to all patients, taking into account factors such as new and/or emerging procedures and techniques and the patients personal history, as well as information gained through diagnostic tests. Applies new procedures in the evaluation and treatment of complex patient cases and conducts research for the advancement of the Family Medicine program and for quality improvement to other providers and patients. Routinely manipulates, repositions, and assist with patient movements that can exceed 40lbs. Performs emergency services or crisis intervention, including life-saving emergency procedures when necessary. Promotes preventative and health maintenance care, stresses positive health behaviors and self-care through education and counseling. Encourages patients to make difficult lifestyle changes to improve their heath and provides follow-up treatment and care to patients to ascertain compliance with therapy and response to treatment. Provides advice by telephone and/or in person to other physicians, non-physician providers, and other professional medical staff on the care of patients with urgent, emergent, and nonurgent medical problems. 2. Serves as member of the professional medical staff and provides advisory and consultative services on various meetings, committees, conferences, and/ or boards. Participates in committees/ meetings that evaluate the care provided to patients at MTF, identifies opportunities to change the care delivered, advises on difficult or complex cases, and recommends corrective action when problems exist. Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) functions, performance improvement programs, risk management programs, and peer review programs. Makes recommendations on improvement of work methods and organizational features. Performs Other Duties Assigned.
