Manager of Design Process & Tool Shop

Our client, a leading custom plastic packaging manufacturer, is seeking a Manager, Design Process and Tool Shop to join their team. As a Manager, Design Process and Tool Shop, you will be part of the Engineering and Product Development team supporting Sales, Production, Purchasing, Estimating, and Tool Room Operations. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and technical design expertise that will align successfully within the organization.

Job Title: Manager, Design Process and Tool Shop
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Pay Range: $85,000 to $95,000

What’s the Job?

• Lead the design and development of new packaging projects from concept through production tooling.
• Manage the construction, maintenance, and repair of new and existing production tooling.
• Direct tooling design activities, including CAD design, CNC programming, and coordination of internal and external resources.
• Collaborate with customers, sales teams, and engineers to define product specifications, prototypes, and manufacturing requirements.
• Oversee tooling department operations, staffing, machine maintenance, inventory, and continuous process improvement.

What’s Needed?

• Experience managing design, tooling, manufacturing, or engineering operations.
• Proficiency with CAD software, tooling design, and CNC programming.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and customer specifications.
• Strong knowledge of machining practices, tooling construction, fixtures, and manual/CNC machine operations.
• Strong mathematical aptitude including geometry, trigonometry, and precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.
