EHS Safety Coordinator -

Pay: $23.00 per hour
Shift: First Shift
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Independence, OR

Job Overview

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented EHS Safety Coordinator to support environmental, health, and safety compliance at our growing media facility. This role is responsible for coordinating and monitoring safety programs, environmental compliance initiatives, employee training, and regulatory documentation to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and corporate requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience in environmental health and safety, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with employees and leadership to promote a positive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure EPA and OSHA compliance documentation is maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements and corporate guidelines.
  • Partner with employees and management to identify, evaluate, and mitigate environmental, health, and safety risks.
  • Maintain and update the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) database.
  • Ensure proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and utilized throughout the facility.
  • Track and maintain records for incidents, injuries, near misses, and safe behavior observations, including follow-up on corrective actions.
  • Coordinate Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) compliance activities and employee training.
  • Assist with emergency response planning and provide guidance during emergency situations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate EH&S training programs and maintain accurate training records.
  • Enter monitoring, sampling, waste disposal, and compliance data into company recordkeeping systems.
  • Schedule and coordinate vendor inspections and services, including fire protection, sprinkler systems, wastewater compliance, and other regulatory services.
  • Serve as the team lead for the facility Safety Committee.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to workplace safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Occasionally work flexible hours, including second and third shifts, as needed to support operations and training.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in an Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) role.
  • Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, state workers' compensation regulations, and wastewater compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to lead meetings, conduct employee training, and present safety information effectively.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across departments and influence positive safety behaviors.

Preferred

  • OSHA Certification.
  • Experience in manufacturing, agriculture, industrial processing, or related environments.
  • Experience tracking and analyzing leading and lagging safety metrics.
  • Familiarity with facility operations and production processes.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing environment that produces mulch, soil, and other growing media products. The role involves both office and plant-floor responsibilities and requires frequent interaction with production employees, supervisors, contractors, and regulatory personnel.
