Full job description
The Opportunity
Threat Tec is seeking an experienced MCTP HST S35 Irregular Forces Coordinator to provide subject-matter expertise and full lifecycle support for the design, development, integration, and execution of realistic irregular, paramilitary, unconventional, and criminal threat portrayals in support of Mission Command Training Program Warfighter Exercises and related Event Lifecycle events.
In this role, you will help create doctrinally accurate, operationally relevant, and story-driven threat environments that challenge commanders and staffs in complex training scenarios. You will support the employment of irregular and unconventional forces in coordination with Opposing Force, Operational Strategic Command, and joint and combined campaign planning efforts.
The ideal candidate brings strong military experience, a solid understanding of Army and Joint doctrine, and the ability to translate irregular warfare concepts, criminal networks, hybrid threats, and asymmetric tactics into realistic exercise products and executable training events.
Responsibilities
Database Development and Management
- Design, develop, and build regional military, paramilitary, irregular, and civilian population entities into exercise databases and simulation environments.
- Maintain change logs and version control for all database entries and associated exercise products.
- Ensure database inputs accurately reflect approved exercise scenarios, operational environment requirements, and doctrinally appropriate threat portrayals.
- Update and maintain the Irregular Threat Slide and associated briefing products for use throughout Event Lifecycle phases.
- Prepare briefing materials for senior leader engagements, planning events, working groups, and exercise execution requirements.
- Ensure briefing products are clear, accurate, relevant, and aligned with approved exercise storylines and operational objectives.
- Coordinate with Opposing Force and Joint partners regarding unconventional force operations and integration into the Supreme High Command Campaign Plan.
- Participate in Operational Strategic Command Military Decision-Making Process and war-gaming activities.
- Prepare and deliver back-briefs of Irregular Forces plans to the Operational Strategic Command Commander and other leaders as required.
- Support coordination across exercise planning teams to ensure irregular force activities are synchronized with broader campaign objectives.
- Develop detailed Irregular Force and Criminal Network orders of battle.
- Produce background materials, biographies, doctrine summaries, capabilities assessments, weaknesses, and operational patterns for use during Warfighter Exercises.
- Build realistic threat networks that reflect irregular warfare, insurgent, criminal, paramilitary, and hybrid threat behaviors.
- Ensure force and network products support operational realism, exercise objectives, and approved storylines.
- Review, recommend additions or deletions, and assist in drafting Irregular Forces Annexes to Operations Orders and exercise orders.
- Ensure annexes and related products are logically consistent with approved storylines, current doctrine, operational environment design, and exercise objectives.
- Coordinate recommended changes with appropriate staff sections, storyline authors, OPFOR planners, and exercise leadership.
- Coordinate with storyline authors to define intelligence support requirements tied to Irregular Forces and criminal networks.
- Support the integration of intelligence requirements, threat indicators, and operational triggers into exercise storylines.
- Ensure irregular and criminal network activities are integrated into the broader operational environment in a realistic and exercise-relevant manner.
- Conduct classified and unclassified research on emerging irregular tactics, techniques, procedures, threats, and trends.
- Identify and recommend replicable inputs for exercise storylines and training events.
- Translate current and emerging irregular warfare concepts into practical, scenario-based exercise injects and operational activities.
- Plan, script, and coordinate Irregular Forces attacks and adaptive operations for scripted and competitive scenarios.
- Ensure planned actions are doctrinally realistic, logically consistent, and appropriately synchronized with exercise control requirements.
- Coordinate with relevant exercise agencies to ensure safe, effective, and accurate portrayal of irregular, insurgent, terrorist, and criminal network activities.
- Acting as Brigade Commander of Special Purpose Forces Brigade and making operational and tactical decisions for assigned sub-units.
- Acting as Commando Brigade Commander and making operational and tactical decisions for assigned sub-units.
- Commanding militia, guerrilla, and other specialized units assigned to the work area.
- Coordinating terrorist, insurgent, irregular, and adaptive operations with Red Senior Control, SDD, and other agencies.
- Ensuring the portrayal of operational environment activities is doctrinally correct, logically accurate, and aligned with approved exercise objectives.
- Produce, update, and maintain Irregular Threat Slides.
- Draft and maintain OPORD annex inputs related to Irregular Forces.
- Develop force and background packets, attack plans, intelligence requirements, storyboards, After-Action Review inputs, and other exercise artifacts.
- Ensure all deliverables are accurate, timely, complete, and aligned with contract and exercise requirements.

Required Qualifications
- Experience using Microsoft Office, including Word and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of current Army and Joint doctrine.
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of military experience; or high school diploma with at least 10 years of military experience.
- Active Secret clearance.
- Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. An active Secret clearance is required.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with irregular, unconventional, counterinsurgency, or paramilitary forces in an operational, training, or intelligence role.
- Experience supporting large-scale collective training exercises, including Warfighter Exercises, Joint Exercise events, Mission Command Training Program events, Combat Training Center rotations, or equivalent training environments.
- Experience with OPFOR planning, Military Decision-Making Process, and war gaming at brigade and operational levels.
- Knowledge of irregular warfare doctrine, insurgent and criminal network behaviors, hybrid threat concepts, and asymmetric tactics.
- Knowledge of current operational environments, hybrid threats, and large-scale combat operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a larger exercise planning team.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced training and exercise environment.
