Please note: Job postings close at 11:59:59 p.m. the night before the listed Posting End Date above.The WNC Agricultural Center is a self-supporting, multi-use complex that operates 364 days per year. The primary purpose of the facility is to serve the horse/ livestock and trade show industries and meet the needs of both the agricultural and non-agricultural community by providing and maintaining buildings and grounds capable of hosting equine events, trade shows, conventions, seminars, community events, and public expos, as well as carrying out all activities of the annual North Carolina Mountain State Fair. The North Carolina Mountain State Fair serves the agricultural, manufacturing, commercial, educational, governmental, and other agencies across the State and its visitors.
This position will encompass a variety of responsibilities, some of which will change from day to day as the demands change with each event taking place at the facility. This position is part of the general maintenance workforce, keeping buildings in good repair and clean. Some of the duties for this position include but are not limited to: building repair, equipment maintenance, utilities repair, maintaining and operating a variety of motorized equipment, and landscaping. The main goal of this position and facility as a whole is to maintain a safe environment for staff, patrons, exhibitors, and their animals at all times. This position will work some weekends or alternating weekends with the Weekend Complex Coordinator as needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Recruitment Range: $35,596 - $60,000
- Experience in building repair, utilities repair and equipment maintenance.
- Experience with operating farm tractors, trucks, skid steer loader and other similar equipment.
- Ability to understand specific needs of the users (ring footing requirements and other special needs) is required.
- Ability to perform routine task and to understand oral and written instructions.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally to perform task.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
