Full job description
Northwell Health is seeking a full-time, board-certified Director of Pediatric Pulmonology to lead the Pediatric Pulmonary Division at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH), a teaching hospital of the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, direct patient care, and oversee the education of residents and medical students, with opportunities to participate in clinical research.
The division includes three full-time pediatric pulmonologists, a pulmonology nurse, and an asthma educator. Clinical responsibilities include both inpatient and outpatient patient care. The primary ambulatory site is our Pediatric Multispecialty Center in Staten Island, opened in 2024, where 16 pediatric subspecialties practice in a child-friendly, multidisciplinary setting. The division is also supported by an 8-bed accredited Sleep Center, an Asthma Center, a PFT lab, and a bronchoscopy suite. Our pediatric aerodigestive center - staffed by pediatric pulmonology, gastroenterology, and otolaryngology - opened in early 2026 and is growing rapidly.
SIUH's Department of Pediatrics is a well-established and rapidly growing department, featuring a 20-bed inpatient pediatric unit supported by all pediatric subspecialties as well as pediatric general surgery, orthopedics, trauma, otolaryngology, and ophthalmology. The department includes a 4-bed PICU and a state-designated Level III NICU, with approximately 2,000 inpatient pediatric discharges annually, 4,000 newborn deliveries, 10,000 ambulatory faculty practice visits, and 20,000 pediatric emergency department visits. Recent investments include the state-of-the-art Gruppuso Women & Infants Center (opened in 2025) and the ongoing construction of the Level III Joseph Maffeo Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (begun in 2026). Faculty have access to the academic and research resources of the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, and academic appointments at the Zucker School of Medicine.
Staten Island University Hospital is a 714-bed specialized teaching institution with two main campuses and multiple community sites, serving Staten Island, the greater New York metropolitan area, and patients from around the world. It is a major affiliate of the CUNY School of Medicine and Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and serves as a clinical campus for the Zucker School of Medicine.
