Quality Engineer

Ontic is a leading global aerospace OEM trusted by the world’s aviation leaders. With over 1,300 employees across four time zones and seven sites, we have more than doubled in size since 2019 and continue to grow at pace.

Our team is looking for a Quality Engineer to join them. You will report to the Quality Assurance Manager and will have an onsite work structure in Creedmoor, North Carolina.

The Quality Engineer is responsible for helping ensure aerospace products, manufacturing processes, and quality systems comply with Ontic and customer-specific Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, applicable aerospace regulatory requirements, and industry standards. A key focus of this position will be developing, implementing, and maintaining a robust internal auditing program while partnering cross-functionally to translate regulatory and quality requirements into meaningful continuous improvement and risk mitigation activities.

You will work closely with Quality, Engineering, Operations, and other business functions to evaluate processes, identify compliance gaps, support corrective actions, analyze quality data, and strengthen the effectiveness of our Quality Management System.

To be considered for the Quality Engineer opening, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality Assurance or a related discipline preferred, or 3+ years of relevant quality experience.
  • Strong understanding of AS9100 aerospace quality standards and applicable FAA regulations.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and other applicable quality standards.
  • Experience supporting or conducting internal, product, and process audits within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of risk management within a highly regulated or compliance-focused environment.
  • Demonstrated experience using structured problem-solving and root cause analysis methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, A3, and Ishikawa/Fishbone analysis.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to evaluate data, identify trends, and recommend effective corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of data analysis software and statistical tools.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate quality and compliance requirements across multiple functions.
  • Strong reading comprehension and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and applicable project management tools.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies, systems, and quality methodologies.
  • Strong commitment to quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

As a Quality Engineer, you will:

  • Provide oversight, interpretation, and application of applicable regulatory requirements, aerospace quality standards, and internal Quality Management System requirements.
  • Evaluate internal processes and systems through internal audits, product audits, and process audits in accordance with QMS requirements, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain the internal audit schedule and support planning and execution of the site’s internal audit program.
  • Establish and support training activities to maintain a knowledgeable and competent internal auditor pool.
  • Identify, document, and communicate gaps related to external standards, QMS requirements, internal systems, processes, and audit findings.
  • Partner with process owners and cross-functional teams to address audit findings and quality system deficiencies.
  • Lead structured root cause analysis activities and support the development and implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collect and review objective evidence to verify corrective action implementation and effectiveness.
  • Analyze audit findings and quality data to identify trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of improvements made to internal processes and quality systems.
  • Support document control activities required for QMS compliance, including maintaining accurate and effective quality records and filing systems.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain an effective Layered Process Audit (LPA) system.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Operations, and other cross-functional partners to promote compliance, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement throughout the site.
