Data Analyst

Job Description:

AMA seeks to hire two data analysts to support NASA’s Earth Action Program, which leverages Earth science data to address critical societal challenges and enhance decision making across sectors such as health, air quality, and disaster response. Theses positions provide scientific and data analysis support to the Wildland Fires Program and FireSense Project, ensuring effective data analysis, sound scientific reasoning, and trusted data products to advance science-based solutions for wildland fire management and resilience. These opportunities are part-time, remote positions supporting the Earth Action Program as part of the Research, Science, and Engineering Services (RSES) contract. Pay range is $32/hr.-$36/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluating published scientific papers and identify cutting-edge research and key science questions related to NASA Wildland Fires Program and FireSense Project.
• Supporting data evaluation and analysis to ensure program and project science goals are addressed.

• Converting NASA collected L0 data into L2 or L3 data products from various sensors.
• Understanding and incorporating instrument limitations and assumptions in data analysis.
• Identifying and implementing necessary corrections to data quality control and propagating uncertainties throughout produced products.

• Supporting collection and organization of field data across the portfolio
• Supporting development and dissemination of data pipelines and algorithms for NASA facility instrumentation.

Required Qualifications:

• BS with current graduate studies in earth system science, environmental science, meteorology or related fields.
• Involvement with NASA Science Activation and NASA GLOBE programs.
• Experience with PM2.5 small sensors, including building, intercomparing, installation and maintenance, data retrieval, formatting and analysis.
• Proficiency with air quality data analysis and integration of ground networks and satellite data.
• Working knowledge of FireSense field campaigns airborne and ground data.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

• Data analysis of spatiotemporal datasets using GIS software.

Required Skills:

• Accountability and self-discipline to work in a virtual environment.
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams at varying levels.
• Strong time management, organizational, written, and verbal skills.
• Proficiency with scientific software, including Igor Pro, Python, and GIS.
• Experience with FireSense campaign data, such as MASTER, AVIRIS, and sounding and ground data.
• Proficiency with instrumentation and tools used by the NASA FireSense program, including air quality small sensors, Graw radiosondes, and hyperspectral imagers.
• Ability to ingest, process, and analyze spectral data.
• Ability to work with large datasets in multiple formats and across multiple platforms

Enhancing Qualifications:

●      Experience with prescribed fires, including different ignition techniques and ecosystem impacts.

●      Wildland Firefighter 2 certifications or beyond.
