As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and Wednesday, Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

GBH Education is a department within public media powerhouse GBH, whose mission is to work with communities to research, develop, and distribute quality media to support the learning and development of children and youth. We aim to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people through research-based practices and partnerships with educators, families, and community-based organizations. We serve educators and learners in both in-school (prek-12) and out-of-school (informal) learning settings, and are co-leads of PBS LearningMedia (www.pbslearningmedia.org), public media’s flagship service of free digital learning resources


JOB OVERVIEW

The Program & Outreach Coordinator supports the implementation of education and community engagement initiatives at New England Public Media (NEPM). Reporting to the Manager, Education Marketing & Outreach, this position provides administrative, programmatic, and outreach support across a portfolio of media literacy, career exploration, and educator engagement programs serving children, youth, college students, educators, families, and community partners in Western Massachusetts and throughout the Commonwealth.

The Coordinator will assist with program logistics, participant communications, internship coordination, event planning, and outreach activities that help connect learners to careers in media and public media. This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career professional interested in education, youth development, media literacy, and community engagement.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Coordination

  • Coordinate day-to-day logistics for Media Lab programs, workshops, and student experiences.
  • Support the planning and implementation of high school media literacy cohorts and college internship programs.
  • Assist with participant recruitment, registration, scheduling, and communications.
  • Maintain program records and collect participant data and feedback.
  • Train interns and youth in NEPM best practices, media production, and technical skills. 

Internship & Youth Programs

  • Support the coordination of interns annually, including onboarding, scheduling, and communications.
  • Assist with planning internship and mentoring activities connected to Media Lab programs.
  • Coordinate materials and logistics for student projects and presentations.

Community Outreach & Events

  • Coordinate interactive station tours for middle school, high school, and college students.
  • Assist with organizing workshops, school visits, and career exploration events.
  • Represent GBH and NEPM Education at college and community career fairs as needed.
  • Support outreach efforts with schools, colleges, early childhood partners, and community organizations throughout Massachusetts.

Communications & Marketing Support

  • Assist with creating promotional materials, newsletters, and social media content for education programs.
  • Support communications efforts related to internship recruitment and program participation.
  • Maintain contact lists and assist with event and program promotion.

Administrative & Grant Support

  • Track program participation and assist with data collection for grant reporting requirements.
  • Support grant-funded projects by maintaining timelines, deliverables, and documentation.
  • Assist with budget tracking for program expenses and supplies.
  • Provide general administrative support for education initiatives and special projects.

SKILL SET


  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Interest in media literacy, public media, education, and career-connected learning.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with educators, students, and community partners.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and familiarity with social media platforms preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel statewide as required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish speaker preferred. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Education, Communications, Public Media, Community Engagement, or a related field required.
  • One to three years of professional experience or relevant internships preferred.
  • Experience working with children, youth, or community-based programs is a plus.
  • Experience with production and media technology, editing, and other technical skills.

Salary Range

$50,820 - $66,975

Compensation offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and internal pay equity.
