What You’ll Do
As a Field Service Technician, you’ll work in assigned neighborhoods to install, maintain, and troubleshoot WOW! internet, phone, and video services. Your responsibilities will include:
Completing new installations, reconnections, disconnections, upgrades, downgrades, and service changes
Installing and relocating outlets, modems, converters, wiring, and related equipment
Troubleshooting service issues from the customer’s equipment to the network tap
Testing, maintaining, splicing, repairing, and replacing coaxial cable and related components
Performing network troubleshooting, including ping tests, traceroutes, and speed tests
Checking signal levels, picture quality, voltage, and system performance
Identifying and correcting causes of signal degradation or service interruptions
Educating customers on how to properly use their equipment and services
Monitoring and repairing system, drop, and in-home signal leakage
Maintaining system security by securing unused ports, drops, and pedestals
Completing work orders, service records, logs, and reports
Maintaining assigned tools, equipment, inventory, and company vehicle
Following WOW!, FCC, NESC, and OSHA safety and technical standards
Delivering friendly, professional, and dependable customer service
Supporting and training other employees when needed
Completing other duties as assigned
What You’ll Bring
Strong customer service and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information in an easy-to-understand way
The ability to work independently, manage priorities, and respond to time-sensitive issues
Comfort using hand tools, testing equipment, and mobile applications
The ability to accurately maintain records, work orders, and service documentation
The ability to read maps and navigate assigned service areas
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts
A valid driver’s license and a good driving record
Experience using signal level meters, volt-OHM meters, spectrum analyzers, or similar testing equipment is helpful.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
This is an active, hands-on position performed indoors and outdoors in a variety of environments. You must be able to:
Stand and walk for extended periods across different types of terrain
Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures
Carry, climb, and safely operate an extension ladder approximately 28 feet long and weighing up to 75 pounds
Lift and carry up to 90 pounds
Work at elevated heights, including roofs and utility poles
Work in tight or poorly ventilated spaces, including attics and crawl spaces
Bend, twist, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, and grasp
Safely use drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, and other hand tools
Work with small components and distinguish between different wire sizes and colors
Use close and peripheral vision and adjust visual focus
Work in environments that may contain dust, dirt, noise, insects, or cleaning solutions
Work safely near power lines and electrical equipment
Safely operate a company vehicle
Meet the physical requirements for applicable personal protective equipment, aerial lifts, ladders, and climbing equipment
