Registered Nurse- Neonatal ICU and Continuing Care Nursery

Baystate Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our department is the region’s only Level III NICU, working closely with neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, residents, pediatric subspecialists, respiratory therapists, and neonatal nutritionists here to care for our littlest patients, 24 hours a day.
The Registered Nurse role in the NICU offers the opportunity to provide specialized, compassionate care to critically ill and premature newborns while supporting families and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to promote the best possible outcomes for each infant.
The Registered Nurse Will:
- Provide specialized nursing care to premature, critically ill, and high-risk newborns in the NICU.
- Continuously assess vital signs, respiratory status, neurological status, and overall clinical condition.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, nutrition, and other treatments safely according to provider orders.
- Monitor and manage specialized equipment, including ventilators, incubators, cardiac monitors, and infusion pumps.
- Support newborns with feeding, thermoregulation, developmental care, and comfort measures.
- Recognize changes in a newborn’s condition and promptly communicate concerns to the neonatology team.
- Educate and support parents and families, encouraging bonding and participation in their infant’s care.
- Collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.

- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and holiday rotation

Required Skills
- Successfully passed Board of Registration in Nursing Examination and licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
- Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- 1 year of NICU experience
