Gastroenterology-Medical Director

The University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences is seeking a GI Medical Director to lead and grow its division at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). This is a unique opportunity to join a nationally recognized academic institution with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, education, and research.
You will play a key leadership role while maintaining a dynamic clinical practice, working alongside a collaborative physician group and engaged trainees in a mission-driven environment serving diverse patient populations.

Leadership Commitment:
Lead and expand GI services on campus in partnership with division leadership
Approximately 20% protected time for leadership responsibilities
Participate in strategic planning, academic initiatives, and administrative leadership
Collaborate with university and hospital leadership on program growth
Clinical Practice:
Enjoy a structured clinical schedule with a mix of procedures, outpatient care, and subspecialty clinics.
Two procedure days per week (10–12 cases per day)
Two clinic days with a mix of new and follow-up patients
One administrative day weekly
Opportunities to practice in hepatology, general GI, and IBD clinics
Team & Support:
You will lead a well-supported, collaborative team focused on quality care and patient access.
Oversees a team of 4–6 physicians
Supported by APPs and dedicated RN care managers
Established infrastructure that has improved access and reduced no-show rates significantly
Work with GI fellows (3 per year; 9 total)
Participate in teaching, lectures, and mentorship
Access to university-affiliated research initiatives and collaboration
Call & Schedule:
Shared call structure with fellows taking first call
Approximately 1:4 call rotation (targeting 1:6)
Weekend call included with flexibility
