Requirements & Qualifications

  • Active Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum 2 years of current nursing experience in pediatrics, school health, or an emergency department
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred
  • Strong pediatric/young adult assessment skills
  • Knowledge of developmental milestones
  • Strong organization and multitasking abilities
  • Comfortable utilizing electronic health records and other computer systems

Must Haves

  • Assess student health concerns and determine appropriate interventions, referrals, or emergency response
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with specialized health needs
  • Administer medications and maintain documentation in accordance with Connecticut school health requirements
  • Coordinate required student health screenings, immunization compliance, and cumulative health records
  • Participate in school teams as the clinical resource for student health needs
  • Identify and respond to communicable disease concerns within the school environment
  • Provide health education and guidance to students, parents, teachers, and school personnel
  • Delegate and supervise appropriate responsibilities to school health office support staff when applicable

Preferred Background & Skills

  • Previous school nursing experience
  • Pediatric nursing background
  • Emergency department experience involving pediatric patients
  • Experience with SNAP Health Center or similar school health documentation systems
  • Experience developing individualized healthcare plans
  • Knowledge of Connecticut school health regulations
  • Experience working with students who have complex or special healthcare needs
  • Strong communication skills with children, parents, educators, and multidisciplinary teams
