Group Summary:
Job Responsibilities:
Coordinates the development and delivery of the environmental program and ensures compliance with government standards. Conducts regular audits and inspections and reports findings and recommendations to management.
1. Assist with tracking and documenting environmental compliance activities (Ex. Air emissions, waste management, stormwater, wastewater)
2. Support the HSSE Leader in maintaining permits and regulatory reporting (EPA, state and local agencies)
3. Conduct formal and informal facility inspections/audits to ensure adherence to environmental standards and procedures
4. Establish and maintain environmental written programs (SPCC, SWPPP, GPP, etc.)
5. Collect data and maintain records related to energy use, water consumption, chemical storage, and waste streams.
6. Help coordinate recycling and waste minimization programs
7. Lead and/or participate in the investigation of environmental incidents and assist in implementing corrective actions.
8. Willingness to learn and work as a TEAM. Stay current on applicable environmental regulations and industry best practice
9. Assist with the development and deployment of environmental awareness and training programs.
10. Contribute to continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing environmental performance and sustainability.
11. Ensure compliance with Magna Environmental Principles (corporate standards)
12. Participate in corporate environmental audits and inspections and drive corrective actions
13. Participate in the facility’s Chemical Approval Process and assist with maintaining current Safety Data Sheets
14. Maintain reliable and predictable attendance.
15. Perform other duties as required.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in environmental compliance or sustainability roles in an industrial setting.
- Certification in environmental management (CHMM, REM, or equivalent) is a plus
- Comprehensive knowledge of local, state and federal environmental regulations (EPA, RCRA, CAA, CWA)
- Experience with environmental management systems (ISO14001)
- Experience in managing environmental compliance including reporting and recordkeeping, environmental permitting for all media, manufacturing operations, regulatory reviews, etc.
- Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to effectively communicate and teach both in private group settings.
- Must have the ability to exercise considerable judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Familiarity with corporate sustainability reporting frameworks (GRI, CDP, etc.)
- Experience in automotive or metal stamping, fabrication and coating industries.
- Project management experience
