Full job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To set up and operate drill presses of the numerically controlled type with manual or automatic tool changers, working under routine supervision.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:

Fixed center, radial, numerically controlled drill presses; tapes, drills, taps, reamers, mills, bar stock cutting tools, wrenches, pliers and miscellaneous hand tools; chucks, sleeves, jigs and fixtures; scales, calipers, rules, plug and caliper gauges, micrometers, indicators. Employee shall furnish the following tools: 6" verniers, 0-1 micrometer, 6" scale.

WORKING PROCEDURE:
  1. Reads blueprints, job orders, sketches, tooling instructions and specifications.
  2. Loads work to machine table by hand or other methods.
  3. Levels and aligns piece or pieces to be drilled or machined and secures on machine table by means of clamps, bolts, vises and/or fixtures.
  4. Positions table to correspond with operational procedures.
  5. Occasionally lays out work for drilling or machining.
  6. Inserts proper tools in proper sequence in holders.
  7. Inserts programs. May adjust feeds and speeds of machine according to size of tools and materials of work piece to be produced in accordance with operational sheets.
  8. Starts machine and operates various controls to perform required operations.
  9. Finishes work to specified dimensions within the required tolerances.
  10. Determines when tools need sharpening.
  11. Checks dimensions of work, using measuring tools such as scales, calipers, rules, micrometers, indicators, gauges.
  12. Fulfills responsibility for dimensional and quality conformance of completed work to applicable specifications and quality standards.
  13. Unloads finished work by hand or other methods.
  14. Does simple burring to facilitate.
  15. As directed, assists with general maintenance and care of machine, greases and oils machine on a daily basis.
  16. Prepares work records and other allied paper work as required to carry out primary function.
  17. Keeps work area in clean, safe and orderly condition not including work generally performed by janitors.
  18. Performs all other tasks that may be required to carry out primary function
